About Agency for Rehibilitation & Energy conservation in Afghanistan (AREA): About Agency for Rehabilitation and Energy Conservation In Afghanistan: AREA has been established in December 1993 as the continuation of the GTZ DESP Project, AREA is a non-governmental, non-political, not-profitable, and developmental organization. Mine Action Program is an integral part of AREA’s initiatives. Based on the need assessment of clearing explosive contaminated areas for conducting development projects, AREA’s mine action program has the duty of ensuring cleared and safe lands for implementation of development projects which will be executed by other functional departments of the AREA. The variety of the “Integrated Community Development Programs” gives AREA another value and good chance to conduct Community Based Mine Action Program and integrate CB demining into the developmental programs. Based on this concept, AREA always assists and responds to the communities’ requests on “what they want to have on their cleared lands”. AREA demining program was established in 1995 and is sufficiently experienced in mobilizing communities to handle clearance operations of explosive ordnance by themselves. AREA is the founder and initiator of the Community Based Mine Clearance Program in Afghanistan. AREA has a highly organized management system consisting of Operations, QM & Training, Program, Admin/HR, Finance, Logistics, IT, and Transport sections. AREA owns a complete demining toolbox, including NTS, TS, Manual clearance, EOD, and EORE components.
Job Description
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The intern will be hired by AREA under the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) Support to Afghan National Mine Action Agencies in Equality and Inclusion Mainstreaming project. He/she will be stationed in HQ-Kabul and will assist EDMO in term of reporting to the AREA Mine Action Director through AREA Operation Manager. She will be working under over all supervision of Managing Director (MD) and under direct supervision of Mine Action Director. She should respect and follow AREA’s constitution as well as AREA Rules and regulations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in managing the affairs related to the AREA gender and diversity mainstreaming section.
- Shall assist in reviewing all the strategic documents of the organization (policies and SOPs) from the gender perspective to make sure that the set Standards and policies are developed as inclusive as required.
- The intern will assist EDMO in reviewing all the forms used in the field level including hazard survey form, completion survey form, PDIA form, gender mainstreaming reporting checklist, and liaison forms from the lens of equality and diversity
- She will assist and take an active part in AREA potential projects proposals to make sure that the gender issue has properly been considered in the proposal.
- Shall will assist in conducting equality and diversity mainstreaming training to AREA staff in HQ and project offices
- She will assist EDMO in preparation of AREA reports on the implementation of activities related to gender and diversity mainstreaming for submission to AREA, EMACA, and UNMAS.
- Be involved in documentation of best practices and lessons learned on the most effective ways to mainstream gender and diversity.
- For the purpose of capacity building, Travel to provinces and conduct field visits along with EDMO as per pre-provided and approved plans.
- Be responsible for any instruction and any assignment given by AREA MD and Mine Action directorate.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in sociology, social science, development studies, or other relevant areas with two (02) years of experience in gender awareness, development, and implementation of gender mainstreaming activities will be advantage.
Knowledge of Ms. Office programs and the internet is required.
Fluency in Dari/Pashtu is required while English is an asset.
