About WADAN: Established in August 2002, WADAN is an indigenous, government registered NGO. We undertake community and institutional development, civic education, education, drug control, human rights, anti-corruption and child protection initiatives. In 2019 WADAN implemented a successful pilot project in Herat Province by mobilizing 50 artisans among Persons of Concern (PoCs)- returnees, IDPs, refugees, and vulnerable host communities produce high-quality arts and crafts lines. Following the successful completion of the inception phase of the Made in Afghanistan project in 2019, WADAN continues to implement this project and support socioeconomic empowerment of refugee returnees, IDPs, and host community to improve the livelihoods of at least 50 artisans, through production, support and market linkages at national and international level.

Job Description

Reporting directly to the WADAN Managing Director and the Focal Point for MaA in Kabul,  the Project Manager will Lead, oversee and implement the MaA project in accordance with its approved work plan throughout the project duration in Herat Province.

Specific duties include but are not limited to;

  1. Lead, oversee and implement successful project implementation in accordance with its approved work plan throughout the project duration.
  2. Define project scope of work, and deliverables that contribute to the overall goal of the project in collaboration with senior management of WADAN and other stakeholders.
  3. Develop full- scale project implementation plans and project progress reports and other relevant documents.
  4. Effectively communicate project requirements to the team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  5. Liaise and coordinate activities with all stakeholders including concerned governmental and non-governmental entities on a regular basis.
  6. Represent WADAN in all project meetings and events.
  7. Where required, share, negotiate and coordinate with other department managers for the acquisition of required support from within the organization.
  8. Supervise the performance of the project staff and provide timely guidance to the team for ensuring achievement of the project set outcomes.
  9. Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones in view of the project document using appropriate tools.
  10. Make sure that the WADAN’s policies, guidelines, procedures and manuals are understood by all staff and properly implemented.
  11. Draft and submit progress reports according to the project reporting requirements and schedules to the donor entity.
  12. Determine the problem areas and suggest suitable solutions to the relevant and potential obstacles that might affect the project progress.
  13. Proactively manage changes in the project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
  14. Collects success stories and shares them with concerned authorities within and outside the organization.
  15. Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and encourages them to take positive actions and adapt full accountability for their assigned duties.
  16. Supervise the data collection, analysis, and decision making based on the evidence. 
  17. Organize a suitable place for women and girls in the business center and ensure children are cared for.
  18. Supervise the process of registration artisans with relevant government departments including the provincial Department of Refugees, Repatriation, Department of Women Affairs and Department of Social Affairs.
  19. Ensure visibility of the project activities are in line with the donor’s policies
  20. Oversees market surveys, demand and supply analysis,  ensure production of products meet the market demand.
  21. Ensure continuous supply chain of the MaA products ,including supply of raw material to the artisans on timely manner.
  22. Evaluate the training sessions, and provide recommendations for further improvement.
  23. Make sure that the product samples are reached to the markets locally, countrywide and internationally – facilitate participation of MaA relevant staff in the exhibitions.
  24. Make sure that the beneficiaries are connected with local, national and eventually with international markets. 
  25. Ensure Procurement Officer procures raw material for producing the products as per approved procurement plan
  26. Work closely with International and Local Local Social Enterprises (LSE)
  27. Promote the project at local as well as at international level
  28. Develop the capacity of Self-Help Group (SHG) to become Artisanal Business Group (ABG)
  29. Manage the locally incorporated LSE (WADDAN) and ensure SHG and ABG receive full technical support.

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, BBA, Economics, Public Administration, or any other related field – Masters is an advantage.
  • At least five years of experience managing development projects.
  • Experience of entrepreneurship, business management and production management would be an advantage
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in office related computer applications.
  • Proficient in English, Dari and Pashto languages.
  • Experience of developing short-term and long-term plans, and report writing
