Tdh has been working in Afghanistan since 1995 and carries out projects related to Child Protection, Access to Justice, Mother and Child Health, and Livelihood Programs in Kabul, Herat & Nangarhar provinces.

Job Description

The Project Assistant will be responsible for supervising and supporting the implementation of health programs in a designated area, with a focus on doctors, nurses, nutrition, and vaccination services. This position will ensure the smooth delivery of healthcare services to women and children, adhering to national and international standards in the context of Afghanistan’s healthcare system. The role involves close collaboration with healthcare staff, community leaders, and local authorities to enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in a culturally sensitive manner.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supervision & Management:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and vaccination teams at the healthcare facilities.
  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of health facilities, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and quality of care.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to healthcare staff, addressing challenges related to female participation in healthcare and promoting an inclusive and safe environment.

 

2. Training & Capacity Building:

  • Support ongoing training and professional development for healthcare workers, especially in maternal and child health, immunization, and nutrition.
  • Organize regular meetings and workshops to update staff on new health protocols, vaccination schedules, and nutritional guidelines.
  • Encourage female staff development through mentorship and continuous learning.

 

3. Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Conduct regular field visits to assess health service delivery, including the provision of medical care, vaccination services, and nutrition programs.
  • Collect data on patient care, vaccination coverage, and nutrition assessments, preparing timely reports for project managers and regional coordinators.
  • Ensure that all services are provided in a gender-sensitive manner, respecting cultural norms and local practices.

 

4. Community Engagement & Awareness:

  • Liaise with local communities, including female community health workers and women’s groups, to raise awareness about available healthcare services.
  • Promote and educate the community about maternal and child health, vaccination schedules, and nutrition programs.
  • Foster trust and understanding between healthcare providers and community members, particularly focusing on empowering women and promoting female health professionals.

 

5. Logistics & Supply Chain Management:

  • Coordinate the timely procurement and distribution of medical supplies, vaccines, and nutritional supplements to health facilities.
  • Ensure the availability of essential equipment, medicines, and resources to meet the healthcare needs of the community.
  • Ensure safe storage and handling of vaccines and nutrition supplies, in compliance with health regulations.

 

6.Security & Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety standards, especially in the context of Afghanistan’s security situation and health regulations.
  • Report any incidents or concerns regarding the safety and well-being of healthcare staff and patients, particularly for female healthcare workers in a challenging environment.
  • Assist in implementing security protocols, ensuring that staff are protected while delivering healthcare services in the field.

Job Requirement

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field, as well as project management.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in health program management or health services delivery, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Experience working with female health professionals and understanding their unique challenges in the Afghan context.
  • Experience in supervising teams, particularly in remote or challenging environments.

 

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of maternal and child health, vaccination protocols, and nutrition.
  • Familiarity with the healthcare system in Afghanistan, including government health policies and local health regulations.
  • Ability to manage and support a diverse team, including healthcare workers from different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with local communities and government authorities.
  • Fluent in Dari and Pashto, with English proficiency preferred.
