The Knowledge House for Development envisions improved quality of life through empowering people with knowledge. It performs research, evaluation and policy advocacy in the areas of humanitarian assistance, health system, nutrition, and vulnerability along with testing innovations. Overview of the study: The Knowledge House for Development is conducting a vulnerability and resilience research/assessment in Kabul, Nangarhar, Hirat, and Parwan provinces. The study is expected to generate valuable information concerning the local (context-specific) vulnerabilities and resilience which could be used to better address aid effectiveness and coping mechanisms. Role summary: Overall, the Regional Assessment Lead will be responsible for executing the vulnerability and resilience assessment in each of the target provinces. This includes, executing qualitative and quantitative interviews at provincial, district and community levels covering the following research topics: Assessing livelihood and needs: including assessing the current sources of livelihood at the household level, especially those for vulnerable individuals, the needs for emergency humanitarian aid, and the extent to which basic human needs are fulfilled. Responding to shocks: assessing the types of shocks experienced by individuals and households, how the households and communities are responding to these shocks (response mechanism adopted), and what was the impact of these shocks at the household and community levels. Resilience against the shocks: assess the current capacities at the individual, household, and community levels to cope with shocks and what could be done to further enhance the coping mechanisms. Effectiveness of humanitarian aid: assess the extent to which the communities, especially most vulnerable people/households been informed of and able to access humanitarian aid in the event of shocks. Assess the current and potential barriers to information and accessing humanitarian aids.

Job Requirement

  1. Responsibilities:
  2. In close collaboration with the research manager plan and execute field data collection, including tools development, facilitating local researchers’ training, supervising and monitoring field data collection, providing technical back-stopping to local researchers, and others as needed for field implementation.
  3. Quality control and data validation: Lead researchers validate collected data to ensure its quality. This includes cross-referencing information, checking for inconsistencies, and addressing any discrepancies.
  4. Coordinating assessment at the province level: Coordinate and collaborate with local stakeholders, community members, and organizations to gather relevant data. Building trust and rapport is essential for successful data collection.
  5. Participate in the selection of the respondents for the study in the community and travel around the community to identify the selected respondents
  6. Review the questionnaires at the end of each interview and ensure that all questions are completed and correctly marked
  7. Submit completed interview questionnaire to Research Manager and discuss developments daily.
  8. Ensure data security and confidentiality of respondents at all the time during and after the data collection.
