About Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation And Recreation (AABRAR): Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation and Recreation (AABRAR) is an Afghan non-governmental, non-political and not for profit organization dedicated to the social, civic and economic integration of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups as well as to the social and economic development of the civil society in Afghanistan. Established in 1992, AABRAR as local non-profit organization has proven its capacity in effective implementation of humanitarian and rehabilitation programs across Afghanistan and is proud of its 29 years of honest and sincere service to the larger Afghan community and its war-torn country, Afghanistan. Involved in sustainable development and implementation of projects across Afghanistan this local grass-root not for profit organization has proven its capacity in the planning, designing and productive implementation of capacity development and rehabilitation projects.

Job Description

AABRAR is currently seeking qualified candidate for the position of Communications Officer. She will be responsible for profiling and championing AABRAR’s communications, advocacy, knowledge generation and sharing. This will mainly include; generating evidence to support AABRAR’s systems approach, documenting AABRAR’s work, ensuring that AABRAR has influence and impact, supporting and promoting stakeholder engagement, creating opportunities for learning that engages the target audiences, and enhancing the capacity of AABRAR staff in communication and advocacy.

 

Specific responsibilities

  • Lead in promoting stakeholder engagement throughout all projects and the wider programme.
  • Communication and Participation in coordination meetings of AABRAR’s donor agencies including AHF/OCHA,
  • Manage the delivery of digital, printed and other communications products.
  • Support in developing AABRAR’s sector advocacy targets and growing ambition to influence beyond the sector
  • Manage publication processes to develop communications outputs of all kinds such as publications, audio- visual products, articles, reports, guidelines, manuals, etc.
  • Enhance the capacity of staff and stakeholders in communication, advocacy, knowledge management, communications and influencing
  • Manage AABRAR’s webpages by uploading activity updates and pictures.
  • Support documentation and sharing of AABRAR’s experiences and successful practices.
  • Support AABRAR’s monitoring related to engagement and communications particularly in AABRAR’s districts of operation
  • Support additional tasks/responsibilities as will be identified by the Program Manager of AABRAR.

Reporting

The Communications Officer will report directly to the Program Manager and will work closely and alongside other key staff based in Kabul. She will also work closely with the communication Team in order to align the subnational and the national communication programmes.

Job Requirement

  • Required qualifications:

  • A relevant technical qualification, such as a Bachelor degree in Development Communications, Mass
  • Media, Journalism

  • Additional training in project planning and management and advocacy
  •  

    Required experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in the following:
  • Building communications and partnership with government
  • Digital communications, development and management of websites and social media
  • Development and humanitarian work particularly in the social services field (health, education, water, food security etc.) in an NGO, research organization.
  •  

    Required skills:

  • Excellent writing (technical), editing, facilitation, message delivery, dissemination and presentation skills in
  • English
  • Good basic computing skills, experience in layout of documents using Word and PowerPoint
  • Fluency in English, Pashto and Dari
  • Excellent computer skills and Microsoft Office applications.
