Job Description
- Screen children (6-59 months) and pregnant and lactating women (PLW) for malnutrition and admit beneficiaries to OPD-SAM or OPD-MAM according to admission criteria
- Examine admitted children (6-59 months) and PLWs and provide appropriate nutritional and medical treatment following national and international protocols
- Examine admitted children (0-59 months) for any signs of co-existing illnesses such as pneumonia and diarrhea, and provide appropriate nutritional and medical treatment or referral according to IMCI guidelines
- Refer cases of severe acute malnutrition with medical complications in children 6-59 months to the nearest in-patient care facility following the Op Mercy referral SOP
- Refer any infants (<6 months of age) identified as needed in-patient care according to the IMAM guidelines
- Liaise with the Nutrition Outreach Supervisor to ensure that IMAM defaulters and non-responders are followed up with home visits
- Give appropriate nutrition, health and hygiene education to the beneficiaries and care takers
- Give appropriate IYCF counselling and other health messages to the enrolled lactating women
- Discharge children (6-59 months) and PLWs according to specified discharge criteria

Quality Management
- Ensure good hygiene standards are kept within nutrition facilities
- Ensure accurate record keeping for reporting
- Supervise daily and weekly reports as required
Staff Supervision and Development
- Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promote a strong team spirit and provide guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions
- Provide support and mentorship to nutrition assistants and IYCF counsellors
Coordination and External Representation
- Ensure good coordination between the nutrition team and other health and nutrition staff and community and site volunteers in the same catchment area
- Ensure staff of referral facilities are informed of all aspects of the program including referral and counter-referral criteria
Logistics
- Assist other nutrition site staff in preparing stock requests
- Ensure safe storage of all medicines and medical material and equipment
- Monitor expiration dates to ensure stocks are used prior to their expiration date
- Conduct weekly stock checks and keep accurate records of stock movements of medical supplies.

Work Experience:
- 1 year's work experience
Languages:
- Written and spoken Dari and Pashtu
- Ability to write basic English (names, numbers etc)

Work conditions:
This position is based at nutrition sites in urban communities. Each working day starts at the Nutrition Centre, and the nutrition nurse is responsible for arriving at the centre on time using their own means of transport.
