Job Description

Position Overview:

The Nurse is responsible for the nutritional care of children under 5 years at local health facilities. This role involves systematic nutrition screening, preparation and updating of medical and nutritional records, and accurate measurement of nutritional criteria. The Nutrition Nurse will also manage and monitor the preparation and availability of RUSF (Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food), provide counseling and health education to the parents of malnourished children, and assist in field visits and community awareness efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct systematic nutrition screenings for children under 5 years at local health facilities.
  • Prepare and update medical and nutritional records.
  • Accurately measure and record MUAC, weights, heights, and lengths of beneficiaries.
  • Prepare and deliver nutrition counseling as per MoPH guidelines.
  • Ensure timely preparation and availability of RUSF for children with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM).
  • Provide nutrition counseling and health education to parents of malnourished children.
  • Ensure adequate stock of RUSF and manage inventory as planned.
  • Follow up on the nutritional status of malnourished children.
  • Submit relevant forms and restock supplies at the end of each day.
  • Assist the project medical doctor in field visits to identify emergency health needs.
  • Take patient histories,  and maintain accurate registration logs.
  • Conduct community awareness sessions to enhance health education and disease prevention.
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirement

Education:

  • Obtained degree in Nursing.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ work experience, particularly in the field of health and Nutrition with NGOs.
  • Experience in public outreach/ counselling, community mobilization, coordination with stakeholders.
  • Strong Command on Pashto/Dari
  • Working experience in the targeted province and familiar with concerned community, geography and culture.
