About International Assistance Mission (IAM): Background The International Assistance Mission (IAM) serves the people of Afghanistan through capacity building in the sectors of Health, Education and Economic Development. IAM in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health implements Community Based Mental Health Program in Herat and Ghor provinces and recently got engaged in relief response activities. The program aims to change the attitudes, behaviors and relationships of the community around mental health and wider, through the media, to promote successes. Working with influential people to advocate for changes in policy and resourcing for community mental health from the Government of Afghanistan for sustainable changes. This program addresses some of the social determinants of mental health problems and the barriers to full inclusion for people with psychosocial disability in Afghanistan.

Job Description

Key responsibilities and tasks:

  1. Beneficiary Selection (20%):
  • In close collaboration with Shura structures and representatives of vulnerable community members, develop and agree on a beneficiary selection criteria.
  • With support from Project Manager and in collaboration with Shura structures, define a practical method for beneficiary selection (i.e., needs assessment, present the result of needs assessment with community, agree on selection criteria with communities, agree on potential list of beneficiaries, etc.).  
  • With support from Project Manager, ensure functional procedures exist to verify beneficiaries before they are considered for distribution.

  1. Project supervision (25%):
  • In close collaboration with M&E officer, develop/revise the required monitoring and supervision tools for the project. Ensure that quantitative and qualitative data collection tools are developed  
  • With support from Project Manager and in collaboration with M&E officer, develop supervision plan and ensure that all distribution activities are supervised.
  • Conduct ongoing field supervision in targeted communities and share his/her constructive feedback to the relevant employees.  
  • Conduct on the job training for the employees according to the supervision finding.

 

  1. Project Planning (10%):
  • Assist the Project Manager to develop the monthly and quarterly plans for the project.
  • Assist Project Manager in reviewing project plans and report any significant modification to the Project Manager.
  • Develop his/her monthly and quarterly plan based on project plans. 
  1. Networking (20%):
  • Establish networking with different Shuras in targeted areas.
  • Active and regular participation to the Shura meetings.
  • Maintain relationship with community volunteers and representatives of vulnerable groups.

 

  1. Data collection (15%): 
  • In close coordination with Project Manager, develop tools, database for data collection and data analysis of the project activities.
  • Engage with Project Manager to collect and manage essential data of the project (i.e., qualitative and quantitative data)
  • Help and support the project staff in terms of collecting the data.
  • Provide timely supportive feedback to project staff based on findings through data analysis.
  • Share the data with Project Manager on monthly basis.
  • Review the records of field staff and make sure the hard data matches soft copies.
  • Reporting (10%)
  •  

    • Provide monthly activity reports to Project Manager at the beginning of each new month.
    • Assist Project Manager for making the quarterly and annual reports.
    • Support Project Manager to develop monthly review reports (i.e. the achievements, challenges, lesson learnt, etc.)

Job Requirement

Qualifications

  • University degree.
  • Experience in supervision and monitoring.
  • Short-term trainings on management and supervision will be considered as added value to the qualification.
  • Former experience in mental health will be an added value to the job.

Basic skills:

  • High communication skills
  • Fluent reading and writing English
  • Computer skills (specifically office programs)
