About Skateistan: Skateistan’s school in Kabul opened in 2009, and includes two classrooms, an office space, skatepark and sports area. Each week we have over 400 youth (boys and girls ages 5-18) attending to be part of Skateistan’s innovative and award-winning programs. Job Description

Skateistan is Hiring! We are looking for an energetic and creative Programs Officer to join our team in Kabul. The Programs Officer (PO) is responsible for implementing the organization's educational and sports curriculums, focusing on the quality of delivery and outcomes to students in Kabul.  Working closely with the General Manager (GM), Educators and international programs department, the PO will focus on leading Skateistan’s Educational team in Kabul with keen and creative management and ongoing staff development opportunities. The PO will enable the Education team to provide students with the best possible educational experiences, including; knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding, educational best practices, teaching methodology, and positive youth development. Skateistan is committed to child protection and safeguarding, and the PO works closely with the GM to implement child protection policies, training, and protocols. Overall the PO will play a key role in providing students with amazing educational opportunities each and every day.

Job Requirement

Programs Management:

  • Coordination and integration of sport and education program aspects of the project site
  • Creation of education programs: themes, teaching strategies, and implementation – according to Skateistan’s values and mission (ensure activities are creative and fun)
  • Organize workshops and training, for both students and staff, related to education & sport:
    • Oversee internal training on educational best practices
  • Adapting curriculum and instruction to meet the specific needs of students with disabilities, whether they be physical, developmental, emotional or behavioral.
  • Communicate and develop professional relationships with other local organizations
  • Manage incoming and outgoing e-mails and the related correspondence
  • Create policies related to programs as required
  • Manage programs budget including procuring supplies for all programs materials
  • Organization all programs-related documents on the appropriate shared folder and updating regularly
  • Accountable for semester’s lesson plans and structured sport curriculum
  • Accountable for scheduling of teachers and volunteers 
  • Oversight of student administration and registration, both paper and electronic
  • Accountable for organization and maintenance of education supplies and classroom needs, as well as keeping an inventory of materials and tools
  • Lead team to achieve 50% program participation from girls, and 20% of total student participation from disabled youth
  • Teach one session per week
  • Administering family visits and outreach on a regular basis, maintaining contact between Skateistan and the students
  • Available at all times during the school day to provide student assistance
  • Contact students and families when classes are suspended or canceled
  • Work with Programs Manager to determine student enrollment and recruitment needs of new students
  • Head of student recruitment; visiting schools, partners, and maintaining contact with these institutions 
  • Enrollment of all Back to School students into public schools
  • Follow-up with graduated students as needed for the organization's ongoing data collection

Programs Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Overall planning and monitoring of sport and education curriculum
  • Monitor and assess quality control of programs
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ learning achievements 
  • Follow-up with absent students for re-enrolment
  • Capture program sessions in coordination with media department
  • Advise on content such as: new classes, student quotes, liaison with media department  
  • Prepare and maintain the educator supervision and class monitoring
  • Write and collaborate on weekly, monthly and quarterly activity reports with Program Manager and Country Manager 
  • Oversee and update secure and accurate participant data entry and record keeping as needed
  • Attend MEL and Salesforce trainings and keep keep MEL/Salesforce database up to date
  • Create and deliver reports on program process and final result for individual educational activities, as requested, including student statistics and analysis on effectiveness and challenges

Training:

  • Training of other staff/volunteers, especially local, in teaching methods and other skills so they can take on more responsibilities 
  • Accountable for organizations of weekly Education Department meetings; preparation of summaries of actions to be taken; tracking of progress on planned issues.
  • Accountable for ensuring creative, skateboarding or sports workshops at least once per week for staff/volunteers
     

*The Programs Officer will also be responsible to perform any reasonable task asked by Skateistan management

Skills Required:

Minimum professional and academic qualifications 

  • Bachelor degree in the field of education, child psychology, or other relevant subject

Minimum years of experience

  • At least 2 years experience in teaching/training field 
  • 1 year experience in a management position

  • Computer skills including e-mail, computer skills using G Suite, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) with database skills a plus
  • Organized and self-motivated and committed to lifelong learning
  • Fluency, both written and spoken, in English and local language at the professional level
  • Sound knowledge of educational theories
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and strategic planning skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently
  • Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness with strong attention to detail
  • Mediation skills include: including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues. Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment. Must be flexible, willing to perform other duties and work irregular hours
  • Online researching skills
  • Basic multimedia skills
