About AFRANE (Amitié Franco-Afghane): AFRANE (Amitié Franco-Afghane) is a non-profit organisation created in 1980 to provide emergency relief to Afghan communities. Since 2003, AFRANE dedicated its attention solely to Education. Its goal is to offer a decent learning and teaching environment as well as to improve the quality of teaching. Therefore, AFRANE has a comprehensive approach. Our action encompasses construction, rehabilitation of schools, library and laboratory equipment, teachers’ training, inception and diffusion of teaching tools and administrative guidance in all the government schools in 15 districts. Indeed, more than 95 000 students benefit directly from our action and 300.000 indirectly through the training AFRANE is provided to the teachers.

Job Description

Main Objectives

Under the supervision of the Pedagogical Coordinator and the Head of Mission, the trainer’s prominent role is to implement the seminars, follow up the training sessions and update the training content.

Collaborating with

Pedagogical Advisor, Projects Coordinator, other trainers, expatriate in short mission

Job localisation

Kabul with frequent moves in Parwan province, occasional moves in Nangarhar province, and possible but rare moves in Bamyan province

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

Training sessions

(Implement, follow up and evaluate the training he/she is in charge of)

  • Plan the training session according to the requirements: go over the contents, prepare pedagogical documents, prepare pedagogical kits, stationeries, etc.   
  • Lead the Dari, Pashto and Class Management teaching seminar for teachers of grades 1-6 actively and dynamically in compliance with AFRANE’s methods (active pedagogy and academic knowledge).
  • Evaluate trainees at the beginning and the end of the training session, as well as the programs, and write regular reports in English or French.
  • Ensure some teachers follow-up some months after the seminar by in situ observation, writing test, and oral feedback.
  • Manage train and support a group of teachers, AFRANE's referee teachers' team, in four provinces in their activities, in person and remotely according to their needs;
  • Perform observations' visits: referees' teachers training, classes hold by the trained teachers;
  • Write observations’ report.

Develop and update training programs

  • In collaboration with the pedagogical coordinator, the project coordinator and AFRANE pedagogical team in France:
  • Review AFRANE’s materials (pedagogical guides and kits) and give improvement ideas.
  • Create new contents, pedagogical tools or handbook with the support of the pedagogical coordinator and the pedagogical team in France (in studying textbooks, curricula of the Ministry and other support Internet).

Participation in the monitoring of pedagogical activities

  • Organise assessment on the needs of the school and report to AFRANE's Pedagogical Coordinator.
  • Lead the annual monitoring for a list of selected schools
  • Make sure the equipment deliveries are processed in an adequate and timely manner.

Transversal theme: school libraries

In collaboration with the logistic officer, the pedagogical coordinator and the projects coordinator, support the creation or the improvement of libraries in AFRANE's schools' network by:

  • Creating and updating the book list for schools’ libraries and guiding the librarians in their methods, through observations, study of curricula and based on AFRANE’s expertise;
  • Planning and performing librarians' meetings in Parwan, Nangarhar, Waras and Kabul Provinces;
  • Taking initiatives to improve libraries and librarian’s activities and efficiency;
  • Monitoring and analysing, with the Pedagogical Coordinator, the reading practices in schools, the libraries' results, the needs, the weakness and strengths, and the reading evolution in the schools.

Other

  • Fill and archive all the documents and soft data (marks, evaluation, trainees’ attendance sheet, etc.);
  • Fill the AFRANE database with trainings data;
  • Write a Fact sheet after each training or observation session;
  • Write a regular internal report on activities, perspectives and improvement track and follow it;
  • Participate in regular meetings with colleagues, identify difficulties and make proposals;
  • Set up and participate in regular exchanges of practices with colleagues from other Provinces;
  • Participate in colleagues' meetings/trainings and report about the good point/improvement margin;
  • Support the pedagogical coordinator for administrative procedures;
  • Organise trainings for other NGOs on the pedagogical coordinator demand;
  • Handle other punctual tasks on the coordinators' demand (pedagogical support, translation, etc.);
  • Report to the Pedagogical Coordinator and the Head of Mission any problem met during working hours or on the home/office way.

Job Requirement

Education

At least a Bachelor Degree (16th-grade graduate) from Faculty of Literature or a related field.

Hard skills

  • At least 3 years of previous relevant experience as a dari or pachto teacher
  • Ideally, previous experience as a trainer for adults
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in Dari and Pashto
  • Good skills in English (B1 minimum)
  • Good computer skills (word, excel, emails, researches on the Internet)
  • Excellent knowledge of the educational system and the national curriculum (levels 1 to 6)
  • Open to alternative pedagogical approaches
  • Data collections and analysis
  • Knowledge of French is an asset
  • Previous experience as a trainer in the field of the fight against discrimination/promotion of equality/inclusive education is an asset
