Job Description

Position Description:

The AKF, Water Emergency Relief Project (WERP) Hygiene and Sanitation Supervisor is responsible, the supervision of HE activities.

He/ She will conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to DACAAR and not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.

Supervise, the HE and sanitation activities in the field, conduct hygiene education sessions in schools, and health facilities, conduct and participate in Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) study, participate in site selection for water points, and train HE promoters, teachers, and community elders on hygiene and sanitation practices. 

Responsibilities:

  • To visit his/ her related sites for supervision of Hygiene & Sanitation activities and to ensure that Hygiene & Sanitation Promoters couples work according to plan
  • To conduct training on hygiene for the Natural Leaders, and village leaders including Mullah Imams and Teachers.
  • To Inclusion women in community decision-making on water supply and management via the CDCs; and community elders.
  • To attend and monitor ongoing hygiene sessions of hygiene promoters by observing hygiene sessions regularly
  • To train and tutor the newly hired Hygiene & Sanitation Promoters Couples until they are performing suitably.
  • Conducting social and sanitation surveys, transect walks, and social mapping of the beneficiary communities.
  • To assist the Hygiene & Sanitation Promoters with any work-related problems.
  • Facilitate sessions with communities in realizing the negative hygienic and sanitary behaviors replaced with positive ones
  • To evaluate the previous sessions of each Hygiene & Sanitation Promoters Couple by visiting households where hygiene education has taken place.
  • To conduct hygiene sessions in schools and Health facilities for children of target communities.
  • To keep the Regional Manager, and Hygiene and Sanitation Team in the Main Office informed about their visits and findings (activities progress and problems/difficulties in the site)
  • Establish mutual and good relationships with the Community Development Councils (CDCs), local authorities, and other influential leaders of the target province.
  • To provide the Hygiene & Sanitation Promoters Couples with all necessary equipment (flip charts and other educational material)
  • To enter the data of KAP surveys (baseline & follow up) for their respective projects and send it for Hygiene and Sanitation Team timely
  • To participate in field visits with donor delegation visiting their respective project sites.
  • To report performed Hygiene & Sanitation activities to Hygiene & Sanitation Team in main office.
  • Support HE promoters to conduct the hygiene education lessons to the community and encourage them to change their behaviour.
  • To fill out all required Hygiene & Sanitation forms, to check Hygiene & Sanitation Promoters Couples’ related form and to submit them on time to the Field Coordinator and RO.
  • Provide the provincial WASH officer with success stories and photos from the field.
  • The holder of this position must strictly follow the organization existing security policies, procedures, and daily instructions of the safety personnel.
  • Any other relevant tasks directed by Field Coordinator, Regional Manager or Program Operation.

Education/ Qualification and Employment Benefits                                               

Education: University degree for both male/Female is required but, (MD degrees is preferred)

Experience: At least Five (5) years’ relevant experience in hygiene education and CLTS is required.

  • Good communication skills, experience in Supervision, good community work, adaptation to traditional or local community, honesty and  hard worker

Languages: Oral and written fluency in (English, Dari, Pashto)
