About Hand in Hand Afghanistan Organization: Hand in Hand Afghanistan Organization (HIHAO) is a not-for-profit organization based in Afghanistan. It started operations in 2007. HIHAO is part of the international Hand in Hand (HiH) network of independent organizations, working together towards a shared vision to alleviate poverty through job creation. The overall Hand in Hand mission is to promote the economic and social empowerment of women, by supporting the creation of sustainable enterprises, improved livelihoods, and jobs. HIHAO has implemented projects funded by DFID, European Union, CAFOD, WFP, GIZ, USAID, World Bank, DANIDA, Sida, Hilti foundation, UNOCHA, UNFAO, IRC, UN Women and Hand in Hand International through its main office in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province of Afghanistan. Supporting vulnerable returnee women through skills development and entrepreneurial support in Herat province of Afghanistan is a one-year project with the financial support of Hand in Hand International to implement in Herat city and Injil district of Herat province.

Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Business Development Officer is overall responsible for the managing day-to-day business developing activities of the assigned project in the targeted SMEs, SMSEs and communities in Herat province.

The Business Development Officer will perform the duties with transparency and integrity, and in adherence to the policies as provided by the HIHAO as follows:

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying new business opportunities and partners
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and key persons
  • Conducting market research to identify new business opportunities and customer needs
  • Coordinating with other internal departments to ensure client needs are fulfilled effectively
  • Negotiating and closing business deals that promote sustained revenue
  • Providing customer service and support to existing clients to maintain the company’s credibility
  • Mobilization and organization of help self-groups
  • Reporting to senior management on business updates, new opportunities, and progress towards annual company goals
  • Assists in the analysis of market trends, industry situations and market potentials of priority commodities.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Perform any task assigned by management

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Marketing, or any other relevant field. MBA will be desirable choice.
  • 3+ years of experience in SMEs development and capacity building activities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Fluency in Dari and Pashto and English languages will be an asset.

Core Competencies:

  • A high level of spoken and written proficiency in Dari is a must and English and Pashto will be an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous tasks.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, and consistently with team members, clients, and partners
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong teamwork ethics, managerial and collaborative skills
