Job Description

Position Summary

Jesuit Refugee Service is seeking an experienced, dynamic Coordinator (social work and child protection) that will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, technical support, reporting, and capacity building of staff for all JRS social work activities in Kabul and Herat.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program development and management

· Assess the diverse social needs, protection needs, and capacities of the population based on factors such as cultural, socioeconomic, gender, age, etc.

· Based on assessment results, work with the MHPSS Officer in MHPSS Global team to develop and implement programing

· Responsible for the appropriateness and quality of community-based work and child protection interventions conducted by JRS projects in Kabul and Herat.

· Ensure activities are consistent with established best practices and acceptable international IASC and national standards

· Work closely with the MHPSS Officer and field teams to determine the operational needs of the program within the scope of the grants and budgets and ensure program deliverables are met according to the highest standards.

Capacity building and technical support

· Provide capacity building of field staff (social workers, youth community volunteers) working within the program (case management, community-based activities, etc)

· Supervise community-based component of the programming, including social work and child protection and in particular integration of psychosocial approach in overall programming

· Conduct regular field visits for programmatic support and technical capacity building

· Support and oversee the technical quality of programming and technical expertise of the staff

Coordination and reporting

· Oversee the collection and timely reporting of data and statistics for all programs (including objectives, indicators and outcomes of health programs) according to internal and donor requirements

· Ensure all stakeholders and donors are provided with updates, following the established reporting structures

· Participate in required coordination meetings

Job Requirement

Work/education experience

· Master’s/Bachelors degree in social work, social sciences, or related field (Master’s Degree is preferred)

· Minimum 3 years of experience in implementing child protection programs, social work and case management, and work in humanitarian or development settings

· Knowledge of humanitarian field, human rights, international development, or other related field

· Knowledgeable in and has used the IASC community-based approaches to MHPSS and best practices as part of their previous work experience

· Previous management/supervisory experience in a cross-cultural setting

· Experience in staff capacity building

· Experience working with vulnerable children

· Demonstrable technical expertise in the assessment of and design and delivery of responses to pre-existing and emergency induced psychosocial needs

· Experience in working in the country or region is a plus

· Knowledge of English is essential.

· Report writing skills

· Bilingual in Dari and Pashto
