Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

Support the creation of a conducive environment to prevent and respond to the protection risks of children during emergency situation.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

. Responsible for design, planning and implementation of CP related activities under BHA project
Responsible for coordinating trainings of various stakeholders on child protection, including Provincial, District and Community child protection structures.
Ensure that child protection implementation meets agreed quality benchmarks and relevant documentation is made to that effect.
Provide technical inputs and lead various assessments, researches on Child Protection issues within the province
Manage a diverse range of Child Protection activities in accordance with BHA project design and ensure the organization is not duplicating its work and providing holistic support to the children and beneficiaries.
Develop work plans, activity budgets and monitor progress and present monthly progress report to supervisor.
Develop new training modules and manuals on child rights issues, social work and community work skills
Support the establishment of Child Friendly Spaces (CFSs) and facilitate trainings of CFS facilitators/animators using Save the Children’s CFS training manual
Ensure effective documentation of our program and progress by capturing lessons learnt and good practices.
Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation focal person to ensure that information related to child protection is properly recorded, stored, analyzed and used by program support unit as well as the implementation team.
Continue to develop understanding on children’s meaningful participation throughout the program, and develop/implement strategies to enable children identify and address the issues of concern to them and promote their voices in locally and regionally
With inputs from the finance unit prepare budget for project proposals and then prepare spending plan, monitor them and prepare financial reports
Responsible for implementation of child safeguarding policy by ensuring that all staff comply with the policy and all volunteers working under the project have undergone child safeguarding training/briefing.
Review and prepare project related reports and detailed implementation plans to ensure that child protection issues and child rights approaches are integrated.
Represent the organization in child protection district and provincial forums 
Represent organization in Protection Cluster and all working groups on protection
Work with appropriate stakeholders within the child protection sector to ensure that children’s rights are considered in the process of legislation formation and institution building.
Report any child safeguarding concerns related to Save the Children Child Safeguarding focal point inline with the SCI child safeguarding policy
Adhere to the organization code of conduct in professional and personal life and report breaches of the code to the appropriate persons

Job Requirement

QUALIFICATIONS 

Being able to empower caregivers to support children.
Should know what types of child protection issues require a case management response.
Should have complete knowledge of child protection.
Being able to differentiate child right from child protection in case management.
Should have complete knowledge of case management principles.
Demonstrated experience working with Government Institutions as well as with civil society organisations in facilitating trainings Child Protection, in both development and humanitarian context.
Demonstrable understanding of the legal and policy framework for child protection in Afghanistan
Demonstrated knowledge of human rights – specifically Children’s Rights including the UNCRC, ACRWC, the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children and other relevant international and local standards and regulations;
Well versed in evidence-based approaches of child protection programming and policy development;
Demonstrated ability to apply advocacy skills within a national setting;
Experience in development of information materials such as technical briefs, case studies and lessons learnt

University degree in Social Work, Social Science or related field;
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in  a  technical coordination position   demonstrated  ability  to develop child protection training curricula and training materials, and advocacy regarding the care and protection of vulnerable children, including demonstrated experience of working to support reforms of the alternative care system.
Advanced program management and supervisory skills to design and deliver programs with partners and/or through direct assistance;
Good report writing and proposal writing skills 
Strong communication, interpersonal and representational skills;
Good networking skills
Ability to effectively mentor and supervise a national staff;
Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently;
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

Fluency in written and spoken English with good analytical skills
