About Union Aid: Union Aid (UA) was established by a group of Afghan philanthropists and social activists in July 1979 in Peshawar, Pakistan. Union Aid was serving Afghan Refugees and host communities living in/around refugee camps through various projects in three main sectors; health, education and skill development. UA has been providing basic health services through hospitals, Basic Health Units (BHUs), labor rooms, provision of prosthetic limbs and first aid trainings. UA facilitated Afghan Refugees in education sector through providing formal basic and higher education, skill development programs for men and women, literacy centers and scholarships. Union Aid is actively providing regular support in humanitarian & development sectors such as, Healthcare, Nutrition, Education, Scholarships, Technical Vocational Education Trainings, Family Support Programs, Emergency Response and Support, Livelihoods, Food Security, Shelter, Construction/Rehabilitation of community level infrastructures, Environmental Protection, and WASH.

Job Description

The Medical Doctor as part of the  primary healthcare services will delivering high-quality healthcare services to the targeted population, including referral services, provision of medicines and medical supplies, providing medical care, diagnosis, treatment, and health education to patients in underserved communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and treat patients with various medical conditions and illnesses.
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and follow-up care as needed.
  • Conduct physical examinations and order diagnostic tests as required.
  • Provide curative services to patients according to BPHS.
  • Support the provision of primary health care within the community.
  • Counsel and educate patients, their families, and the community, in relevant areas of health.
  • Share knowledge, skills, and expertise with health facility professional staff concerning their job requirements.
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives; continuous quality improvement initiative; safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards.
  • Supervise and monitor all the activities of wards.
  • Identify and report immediately any problem that interferes with the delivery of services or in achieving the program objectives to the project supervisor/team leader, and the project supervisor/team leader to his/her immediate supervisor.
  • Identify and report immediately any suspected epidemic cases.
  • Participate in the weekly meetings of health facilities to share information and discuss the program's progress.
  • The Head of the Facility is responsible for arranging weekly meetings or any meeting in case of requirements or emergencies.
  • Fill the registry book, continuously (and while a patient is present), recording all patient data, diagnosis, prescriptions, referrals, advice, and other facts corresponding to examinations
  • Closely collaborate with community health workers to strengthen the referral and linkage system with the communities
  • Conduct monthly coordination meetings with Local Health Committee members and CHWs regarding the strengthening of the community health work.
  • Provide emergency medical care and stabilize patients in critical conditions.
  • Engage with local communities to understand their healthcare needs and concerns.
  • Promote healthcare awareness and community participation.

Job Requirement

  • Medical degree (MD) and a valid medical license to practice in Afghanistan.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience as a medical doctor, preferably in rural or underserved areas.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of standard medical procedures.
  • Excellent communication and patient-centered care skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in local languages is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Afghan healthcare regulations and cultural sensitivity is a plus point.
