About Society Empowerment Organization (SEO): Society Empowerment Organization (SEO) is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 2008 with the mission of assisting in humanitarian aid, legal aid, education, non-formal education, economic development, demand-driven vocational training, apprenticeship, income generation projects, peace, and human rights. SEO target groups is young people, communities, CSOs, women groups, IDPs, and returnees, religious scholars. Job Description
Project summary:
Improved the practical skills and knowledge of independent defense attorneys, religious leaders, and community leaders in order to find, assess, analyze, manage, and represent indigent and marginalized individuals in formal courts. This led to an increase in the efficiency of the formal justice sector. Enhancing access to justice, the fair delivery of judicial services, and the ability of the poor and the marginalized to claim their human rights through formal channels, as well as encouraging grass-roots, civil society-inclusive participatory decision-making.
Main responsibilities:
- Identifying, review, analysing and representing legal cases in formal courts, handling and follow up of the clients’ cases in judicial departments, prosecution offices and courts.
- Participating in prosecution investigation process and judicial sessions and defense from the clients in trials.
- Strengthening collaboration between formal and informal justice actors and establishing of formal-informal justice actors collaboration on disputes resolution
- Strengthening formal-informal justice linkage and referral procedures as well as practical ways to cooperate in resolving disputes
- Conduct research and analyze a case to determine a probable outcome while devising an effective strategy to defend clients in court
- Represent clients at arraignments, hearings, and court trials
- Interpret laws for clients and help them to understand their legal options
- Attempts for the release his/her client during investigation and after the decision of court.
- Observation of the crime’s scene, meeting with the victim, witness and the relatives of the victim.
- Drafting and filing appeal documents.
- Present evidence to a judge and/or jury should the case go to trial
- Develop arguments and represent clients in criminal and civil legal proceedings
- Prepare and draft legal documents, including legal briefs and appeals
- Negotiate plea deals, punishments, and settlements
- Undergo ongoing training to stay updated about changes and new developments in the legal field
- Stay informed about current legislation, especially concerning the new administration
Job Requirement
- Must be graduated from Law faculty or Sharia faculty.
- Must have the license of the “Defense Lawyer” from the Ministry of Justice or any other relevant authorities.
- At least 2 years of experience in legal advocacy.
- Having knowledge of computer.
- Should have the comprehensive knowledge of Afghanistan’s laws and legal system
- Have good communication skills and have the special ability of establish relations
- Should be able to speak and write Pashto and Dari languages.
