Job Description
Job Summary:
The students of Midwifery at the Moraa Education Complex (Moraa) are required to learn English, with attention given to English for Midwives. The teacher will conduct a pre-test to assess the current level of English knowledge in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding. Based on this, the teacher will develop a curriculum to be approved by the President of Moraa and the Head of the Midwifery Department. The teacher will also develop the English vocabulary for the students in the areas of Midwifery and for developing skills in basic computer literacy.
Once developed and approved, the teacher will teach the curriculum using student-centered pedagogical techniques, and track progress through assignments and exams.
Key duties and Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development
- Develop a curriculum for basic English to improve reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills with a focus on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method.
- The curriculum will focus on English for Specific Purposes (ESP) keeping in mind English for Midwifery students.
- Develop a vocabulary for Midwifery and computer literacy and integrate into the curriculum.
- Receive approval on the curriculum.
Lessons Development
- Develop the course syllabus for basic English and computer literacy based on the approved curriculum
- Compose lesson plans in order to successfully incorporate the full duration of each lesson.
- Execute lessons efficiently using student-centered pedagogical techniques.
Evaluation
- Conduct Pre-test at the beginning of English course and share it with the Foundation’s M&E.
- Develop evaluation materials – quizzes, assignments, exams and so on.
- Keep records of students’ attendance
- Conduct periodic evaluations and submit results to Moraa and to the Foundation
- Modify, if needed, curriculum based on the evaluation results.
- Conduct a final post-test to evaluate the overall progress of students
Reporting
- Submit weekly reports by the end of each Thursday that gives the following information concisely: Number of students taught
- Topics covered
- Challenges
- Attendance
- Any other item that needs attention by Moraa or the Foundation
Job Requirement
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English literature, Education, or English language department.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 to 3 years of English language teaching experience to university students
- Demonstrated experience in developing English curriculum, using effective teaching methods and facilitate a peaceful learning environment for students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Good coordination and cooperation skills.
- Fluency and ability to write the students’ progress reports in English, and one of the national languages.
- Knowledge and good command of MS Office.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must be willing to identify and support the struggling students individually.
