Job Description
Scope of work:
As Communication Officer, the position holder is expected to undertake all the external and internal communication flow including all the press and media parts of the related regional management office specially ABADEI project with full consultation of the related RMO Senior Communication Officer (SCO). This will entail supporting the SCO managing SCA’s contacts with Afghan local media, ensuring that SCA is responsive and proactive in its media outreach. S/he will also be responsible for all the written and digital publications of the related Regional Management Office mainly concerning ADBADEI project. The position holder will also manage the brand, implement the visual identity, media relations, production of information materials, internal communications, and prepare case stories in different formats.
S/he also supports the Communications Unit-COMA at the Kabul Management Office (KMO) in all of SCA’s ABADEI project-related communication activities that are carried out at the regional level and supports the SCO of the related RMO in communication, fundraising, and advocacy at the Communications Unit-COMS.
Main Responsibilities
The position holder will mainly support the SCO in the areas mentioned below with a focus on ABADEI project in the related RMO:
- At the Regional Management Office, S/he will support all kinds of communications activities as media relations, production of printed materials, updating the regional section of the common SCA webpage, support advocacy activities, handling internal communication, etc. Always keeping an eye on that the guideline for the visual identity is followed. S/he supports arranging visits of the international journalists and accompanies them during the visits. When needed s/he will also support the partner organizations of SCA in their communication activities.
- Perform all communications-related tasks in the region.
- Promote and sustain SCA’s reputation and brand.
- Assist in developing communication strategies for organizational objectives delivery.
- Support and manage media relations and maximize media opportunities.
- Ensure implementation of SCA visual identity at the RMO level. Produce high-quality communication materials; both when it comes to design and quality of text and pictures.
- Support updating related RMO pages on SCA website.
- Support advocacy activities.
- Handle internal communication mainly related to ADBADEI project.
- To increase awareness at the rural community levels about SCA and reflect program/project activities through articles and pictures.
- To be the focal point for the Communications Unit at Kabul Management Office mainly related to ADADEI project, which includes support to produce the staff magazine, support for efforts to develop SCA's presence on the Web and in social media, contacts with national media, and all other communications activities at the national level.
- Support the SCO with the work of communications, fundraising, and advocacy at the Communications Unit in Sweden keeping in the look the Communications Unit in Kabul, which is the focal point.
- To travel to rural areas where SCA has its activities to collect data.
- Responsible to develop case stories and publication material as per donor request in coordination with relevant program unit at the RMO level.
- Must share and promote SCA’s Values of responsiveness, impartiality, equality, social justice, and Integrity.
- Support arranging visits of visitors related to communication activities to related RMO.
- Take responsibility for own work and honestly seek to achieve organizational and personal objectives.
Job Requirement
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Journalism, or equivalent, in the related professional field. Master’s degree holders in the related field will be preferred.
Experience:
- 3-4 years of relevant experience in the field of communication, especially with an NGO, UN agency, similar organization or reputable media institutions.
- Experience in web publishing and managing social media.
- Experience in producing high-quality communication; both when it comes to design and quality of text and pictures.
- Be able to write journalistic texts of high quality.
- Conducted media relations or worked in media.
- Computer skills at the operator level, especially with MS Office packages & other required media software’s.
- Fluency in English and Dari and Pashto, both written and spoken.
- Experience in planning and reporting.

- Have good interpersonal skills and ability to plan work.
- Ability to take initiative, and be creative in planning communication-related activities
