Job Description
Scope of work:
The disability programme is managed by a programme management unit in Kabul management office (KMO) and by four regional management offices (RMOs) at Jalalabad, Mazar, Taloqan and Ghazni.
The Disability Awareness Raising Officer is responsible to collect, develop disability informative materials from various resources and distribute through community for the purpose of
a) raising awareness among community, family members and person with disabilities regarding their responsibility toward PwD,
b) stimulate community members, schoolteachers and students, health workers, traders and any other part of the community who can support people with disabilities and provide equal opportunity PwDs mainstreaming, c) change negative attitude of non-disabled people through reflecting abilities of rehabilitated persons with disability through writing, publications, drama, film and photo shows.
The position holder work closely with the Senior Communication Officer of the related RMO in areas of media contacts, publicity through the media and writing of publications.
Main Responsibilities:
- Collect information on the situation of persons with disability and accordingly plan awareness raising activities
- Collect disability related informational material from other resources available in the area.
- Develop disability related audio, video, and printed awareness materials, if necessary, in consultation with communication unit in RMOs
- Study disability programme beneficiary cases and select appropriate beneficiaries for the success stories.
- Finalize drafting of Ability Magazine and coordinate wall paintings and IEC materials with the relevant bodies.
- Present final draft of Ability Magazine to communicate unit of RMOs for technical review, finalization, and printing to ensure SCA visibility standards are adhered to. Communication unit is allowed to remove and shift information to the general magazine when matches the content of related RMOs from Ability Magazine to general magazine.
- With coordination and validation of respective communication units in RMOs, make film from disability project sections activities and broad casting from local TV.
- Write success stories/articles, publish, and share it with relevant stakeholders as well as publish it in the Ability Magazine or/and RMO publications
- Coordinate disability programme events with relevant stakeholders and media through communication unit.
- Lead conduction of awareness raising campaigns.
- Collect feedbacks of beneficiaries regarding the Ability newsletter, IEC materials, and awareness activities of disability programme.
- Participate in all disability project important event in the regions.
- To maintain a record of all events and publications done within the project
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual activities report to the line supervisor.
- Sharing the Disability Project information, success stories, and event reports and photos with other stakeholders and RMOs and KMO colleagues
- Liaise with RMO and KMO communication units for awareness raising related issues.
- Organize round table discussions in local TVs/radios regarding the challenges of persons with disabilities and approaches to address those challenges through communication unit.
- Develop and distribute advocacy related videos, radio, and IEC materials with support of advocacy senior officer.
- Support special education and physical rehabilitation colleagues in developing informative and awareness raising video for PERCs and PRC.
- Support DPO members in round table discussions on the rights and entitlements of persons with disabilities
- Through communication unit, coordinate sign language news with media
- Record minutes of all meetings conducted with local authorities when required.
- Visit SHGs and DPOs to give technical support on how to raise and do awareness on the right of person with disability.
- Follow up/document the outcomes of trainings and report to the disability project manager.
Job Requirement
Qualifications & Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Arts & Literature, or equivalent in related professional field.
- 3-4 years’ relevant experience, especially within an NGO, UN agencies or similar organization. Experience in digital & print media and designing of IEC materials is must.
- Computer skill at operator level, especially with MS Office packages, adobe package such as Photoshop, premier, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Fluency in English and Dari and/or Pashto, both written and spoken
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to write & develop case and success stories.
- Ability to facilitate round table discussions.
- Team worker, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Develop and design disability awareness audio, video, and printed materials.
- Experience of planning, reporting, budgeting, designing, and awareness raising.
- Ability and willingness to travel to the project sites within Afghanistan and adjust to SCA environment.
- Honest, proactive, and well mannered.
- To be Afghan National.
