About MEDAIR: Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programmes mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction. An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition and morbidity, which have been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions
Job Description
Overall purpose
Part of the Nili Logistics Team to support the running of the multisector project in Daikundi, with a focus on facility management, warehouse, travel and some minor local procurement
Project overview
Building on Medair’s twentieth years of experience in the Central Highlands, this project will serve families in Bamyan and Daikundi Provinces by providing activities on kitchen gardening and cash transfers to increase food security of drought-affected households. Furthermore, working through Mobile Nutrition Teams, the project will increase access to services for mothers, pregnant and lactating women (PLW), new-borns and children under five in highly remote areas of Daikondi districts, Medair will also reduce the vulnerability levels of family members to water-related and other preventable diseases, and increase economic access to local markets. Behaviour change communication will strengthen the interventions of all proposed sectors and mainstreamed protection will ensure project activities are meaningful, accessible and safe for beneficiaries.
Technical responsibilities
- Manage the warehouse of a Medair field base containing project and base items
- All in and out movements are recorded according to procedure
- All goods are stored in a safe, clean, and orderly manner according to requirements
- Take responsibility for the maintenance of the base, including safety measures.
- Procure items as requested form the local market
General responsibilities
- Immediate notification of any suspicion of fraudulent activity amongst staff and external links.
- Adherence to Medair values and to contribute to the wellbeing of the team as an active member.
- Adherence to Afghan NGO Law and Tax Law.
- Adherence to all NRS Regulations and Security Standard Operating Procedures and maintaining confidentiality always.
- To adhere strictly to Medair Security Plan and the LA relevant to this role.
- To conduct all Medair activities honestly and to report any issues to the line manager or a member of the Medair management team
- To be flexible and willing to assist in other areas of work as requested by the line manager
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Stock management
- Issue stock according to Stock Requests daily.
- Update stock cards with in and out movement of the warehouse
- Provide weekly and monthly stock reports
- Carry out monthly physical inventory of all stock items
- Weekly reconciliation with programs teams of the issued stock compared to distribution lists
- Create loss reports when applicable
- Alert the project manager and logistics team in Nili when the project items are reaching the agreed safety stock.
Travel/transport
- Assist the logistics officer in providing an overview of staff movements, ensuring vehicles are ready for drop off/ pick up.
- With approval from the budget holder (PM) coordinate the necessary casual labour for loading and offloading of supplies
- Help with securing transport when necessary to send supplies from field subbase to field sites
Procurement
- Daily procurement of food items for the office
- Procurement of items <1,000 USD as requested by the project or Support team.
Base and safety management
- Carry out minor repairs at the base as required, as well motorbikes
- Monthly check on security measurements (i.e. fire extinguishers, locks, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors)
- Monthly check on base first aid kits for expired items or need for restocking
- Monitor the staff movements and adjust the facility needs (accommodation and food) accordingly.
General
- Cover for logistics officer during leave.
- Participate constructively in team meetings
Job Requirement
Education
- High school graduate (12th Class)
Relevant experience
- At least 1-year experience in community work or NGO
Languages
- Fluent Dari oral and written skills
- Basic English skills required.
