How can you make a difference?

Accountable for developing, managing, implementing social media communication strategy and associated activities with the aim to accelerate the growth of social media engagement, increase polio awareness, understanding and support UNICEF's mission, priorities, and polio programmes in Afghanistan.

KEY END-RESULTS

  1. Social media strategy: Ensure the UNICEF polio programme has polio eradication communication strategy and associated work plan to support the Programme’s objective to vaccinate every child, everywhere.
  2. Content Development: Ensure that the production of communication products and materials for social media channels and other digital platforms is timely executed and followed up to support operationalization of polio communication strategy, national and regional campaigns
  3. Monitoring and evaluation:  ensure monitoring and evaluation activities are regularly undertaken according to the work plan to achieve maximum impact and continuous improvement of the programme’s online communication efforts. 
  4. Networking and partnerships: work with polio partners at Communication Working Groups (CWG) and formulate digital campaign concepts aligned with Global Polio Eradication initiative (GPEI). 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES and DUTIES & TASKS 

Within the delegated authority and the given organizational set-up, the incumbent may be accountable for all or assigned areas of the following major duties and end results.

  1. Social media strategy

Ensure the polio programme has a clear polio eradication communication strategy and associated work plan to support the Programme’s to vaccinate every child, everywhere.

Duties & Tasks

  • Support the development and implementation of social media communication strategy and ensure it is in sync with the national and regional communication plans.
  • Ensure the polio social media platforms are regularly updated and contribute to creating a discourse around polio priority areas, engaging in discussion with audiences, key influencers, media, and other key stakeholders.
  • Optimize social media activity for maximum reach, and report on social media metrics growth across all platforms.
  1. Content Development

Support production of communication products and materials for social media channels and other digital platforms are timely executed to support polio programme campaigns

Duties & Tasks

  • Develop a social media plan for every campaign and manage daily social media content and engagement.
  • The content should be innovative and designed to create awareness and address online issues including rumors/misinformation.
  • Produce real-time live coverage of the campaigns with photos, and videos from the field to promote better understanding of polio and support the children's right to good health and UNICEF’s role in polio eradication in Afghanistan.
  • Engage the public with relevant campaign posts and key messages across all social media platforms.
  1. Monitoring and evaluation

Ensure monitoring and evaluation activities are regularly undertaken according to the work plan in order to achieve maximum impact and continuous improvement of the programme’s online communication efforts

Duties & Tasks

  • Generate social media data regularly. Ensure social media data are analyzed and reports are shared with polio programme team
  • Use social listening mechanisms/software monitor all social media platforms. Identify social sentiments in the communities and popular trending issues on polio, while tracking and countering rumors/misinformation and negative content
  • Take lead in development and implementation of the polio section’s social media outputs
  1. Networking and partnerships

Work with polio partners at Communication Working Groups (CWG) and formulate digital campaign concepts aligned with Global Polio Eradication initiative (GPEI). 

Duties & Tasks

  • Maintain close working collaboration with ACO Communication & advocacy team and utilize the UNICEF and polio digital platforms and identify opportunities to amplify the voice of polio vaccination, and donor’s visibility.
  • Develop and maintain a contact list of nationally and regionally renowned influencers who could be used to support UNICEF’s polio work towards vaccine acceptance.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the capacity of polio communication teams in the regions to contribute to social media engagement, social listening and WhatsApp groups.
  • Ensure regular communication and co-ordination with relevant communication focal points at national and regional offices

Job Requirement

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in communication, Journalism, Social Media studies, Media studies, Social Sciences, Communication for Development.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in the UN or other international development organization. Experience working in the polio programme and large health campaigns. Training and experience in social media and general communication
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
