Main fields of Welthungerhilfe intervention in Afghanistan are emergency relief, food and nutrition security, rural and regional development and water and sanitation.
Job Description
Purpose of position:
Radio Operator will assist to operate and monitor VHF radio systems, vehicle and personnel tracking systems, CCTV, e-mail, vehicle booking systems, satellite telephones, mobile telephone and internal phone systems, in English and local languages.
The Radio Operator will send messages through bulk SMS system to all staff when there is an incident as well as conduct headcount if necessary. Radio Room will be in regular connection with staff and staff could get in touch if necessary.
Main Responsibilities:
- Operate radio equipment in order to communicate with vehicles, field offices and other remote operation and report to Safety manager (SM) in country office and Safety officers (SOs) in the regions.
- Recording and tracking all WHH related vehicles movements throughout the region on a regular bases and reporting to SM and SOs.
- Ensure that all radios and other communication equipment in the Radio Room are working properly and regular maintenance is done. Report the faults as they arise and get them fixed.
- Alert Safety focal point/s of important events, by monitoring CCTV cameras, internet, TV and radio news in English and Persian, as well as via security alert systems.
- Be responsible for the integrity and safe custody of the confidential WHH international staff and WHH national staff information.
- Coordinate with Safety unit for facilitating the transport for national/international staff and visitors.
- Briefs staff members on the use and care of assigned communications equipment.
- Assists SM/SO in updating all emergency contact information and provide necessary emergency info to all WHH staff during the emergency situations as required.
- Examine and operate the communications equipment prior to assign to staff (Thuraya with charger etc.)
- Running a fully operational dispatching service
- Performs all other related duties as requested by the WHH Safety Manager and Safety officers.
- Radio Operators are responsible to communicate any problem they face to their immediate supervisor.
- Radio Operators are responsible for drafting and distributing SMS announcements through the bulk SMS system to all staff at the request of a member of the Safety department
- Making regular interaction with the communities: contacting communities and visiting project sites.
Job Requirement
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- 3+ years relevant experience working in safety and security with a preference for (I)NGO experience
- Knowledge of HF and VHF radio operation
- MS Office Proficiency
- Verbal and written fluency in English
