Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job:

 Under the overall guidance of the Case Management Officer, the Protection and Rule of Law (PRoL) caseworker will based in a field office and will be responsible for implementing protection case management in line with key protection principles and standard operating procedures. The case worker will work with community members experiencing protection risks and concerns, prioritizing persons experiencing high vulnerability, such as women and girls, children, socio-economic hardship, persons with disabilities and serious medical conditions, elderly persons, persons exposed to explosive hazard risk. He or she will provide timely protection assistance and services, and referrals to specialized services when needed. PRoL casework will serve host communities, internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees and other populations of concern in line with IRC Standard Operating Procedures, and Global minimum standards of protection.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

General Duties

  • . Support in the follow up and management of identified protection cases;
  • Maintain case management files in line with the SOPs, and protection data management best practices
  • Support with service mapping to identify service providers in their areas and update service mapping on a regular basis
  • Participate in regular case management meetings to discuss cases, best practices, and lessons learned
  • Under the guidance of the Case Management Officer and Snr. PRoL Officer, disseminate key protection messages including on rights and available services
  • Provide regular progress reporting on cases to the Case Management Officer for donor reporting
  • Perform other duties as requested 

Specific Duties:

  • The caseworker, with support from the Case Management Officer, will assume responsibility to assess the level of protection risk, and respond in a timely manner to protection risks and concerns, prioritizing urgent cases
  • . For specialized protection cases and non-protection cases, make timely referrals to relevant sectors/service providers and follow up on whether the service has been received by beneficiaries
  • Identify cases for protection cash, individual protection assistance (IPA), and referrals. Discuss with the case management officer to ensure that the identified cases meet the criteria for assistance. Ensure timely response and follow up.

Job Requirement

Qualification and Requirements:

  • Education: High school or Bachelor’s degree
  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience of implementing protection programs, preferable social work or case management, in humanitarian or development settings, experience in case management especially with IRC and previous humanitarian work experience preferred
  • Skills: Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well and work in cross-cultural setting.
  • Technical Competency: good
  • Communication and reporting skills
  • Fluency in Pashto, Dari and English
  • Computer skills (including MS Word, Excel, Access, and internet) an advantage
  • Ability to work closely, professionally, and constructively with all others regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, race, tribe, or cultural background
