Job Description

  • Consider the protection needs of beneficiaries and ensure all ERM activities seems to mitigate harm to beneficiaries.
  • Regular attending in daily assessment with Joint Assessment Teams,
  • Organize focus group discussions to understand the protections risks facing conflict and natural disaster-affected communities based on age, gender and diversity.
  • Identify households with potential protection risks and lead assessment activities for these households and members of joint assessment team act appropriately.
  • Maintain a record of protection concerns and risks in specific communities and communicate these issues as needed to project manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop information resources indicating all protection service providers in an area.
  • Support beneficiaries with specific needs to access referral services and additional support.
  • Develop solutions to meet the protection needs of beneficiaries needs with limited resources.
  • Link beneficiaries to early recovery and longer term development initiatives.
  • Develop training and guidance materials on protection for teams and partners.
  • Monitor Joint Assessment Teams and improve team capacity to carry out ERM activities in line with protection principles.
  • Maintain an internal record of referrals and follow up on protection cases to ensure protection service was provided.
  • Develop and understanding of the various rights, legal services and assistance programs available to Afghan nations by the government.
  • Develop strategies and guidelines to ensure ‘Do No Harm’ principle is practiced.
  • Consult with Protection Officers at other bases to develop common understanding of best practices and lessons learnt.

Job Requirement

  • Must be willing and able to engage with a diversity of beneficiaries and consult communities to better understand the protection needs.
  • 3 to 5 years relevant work experience in same position
  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, and Social Science,Political Science 
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of protection and humanitarian principles.
  • Familiarity with the ERM project and/or emergency assistance projects in Afghanistan.
  • Able and willing to work long days carrying out physically challenging work.
  • Ability and willingness to travel in rural and hard to reach areas.
  • Experience working with conflict-affected communities and individuals.
  • Sensitive to the needs of others with understanding of basics of psychosocial care.
  • Past experience conducting needs assessments.
  • Ability to work well in teams.
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems under stress.
  • Negotiation and communication skills.
  • Fluency in local languages (Pashto & Dari)
  • Computer skills preferred
