About Company

About CTG: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Afghanistan in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) Afghanistan implements a regional cross-border TB project supported by the Global Fund since 2019. The project aims to strengthen collaboration, information sharing, and diagnosis/treatment service referrals between health services reaching Afghan refugees, returnees and migrants and the respective national TB control programmes (NTPs) in the host countries, with the aim of finding and treating TB cases among mobile Afghan populations. As a key component, IOM organizes active screening of TB among returnees, refugees, migrants and IDPs in returnee and cross-border settings. Under the overall supervision of Migration Health National Programme Officer and the direct supervision of) TB Field Coordinators and the Provincial Coordinators in the assigned provinces, the X-Ray Technician will assist in radiological screening of TB patients and its relevant tasks for successful implementation of the Multi Country Grant TB Project. The X-Ray Technician is expected to carry out his/ her duties in accordance with the strictest ethical standards, building and maintaining partnerships with Government, international organizations, and non-governmental agencies, and with due respect for gender and socio-cultural sensitivities.

Job Description

  1. Verify patients' identity and reviewing referral requests by the TB Coordinator and screeners before beginning x-ray procedures.
  2. Ensure that the x-ray machines are set at the correct radiation levels.
  3. Assist in TB active case finding (ACF) through conducting TB screening among Afghan returnees, migrants, IDPs and host populations, with particular focus on areas of high return and cross-border migration, such as at border crossings, in cross-border communities, and in settlements that host migrant and returnee populations at greater risk of potential exposure to TB.
  4. Take quality x-rays of patients’ chest, bones, soft tissues, or organs as instructed by the TB Field Coordinator and/or Provincial TB Coordinator and/or examining physicians according to the standard National TB Guidelines of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the National TB Control Programme of Afghanistan
  5. Explain x-ray procedures to patients and answering their questions. Position patients, accordingly, which may include lifting and moving patients with limited mobility. Limit patients' exposure to radiation by placing lead shields on patients where needed.
  6. Ensure that the x-rays taken are of sound quality to prevent repeat procedures.
  7. Ensure that the x-ray equipment is regularly serviced and in good working order. Promptly notify management of damaged or malfunctioning x-ray equipment.
  8. Maintain an accurate record of completed x-ray procedures.
  9. Ensure the referral of all detected presumptive TB cases to the NTP provincial Focal Points and relevant treatment facilities and ensure the completion of the required laboratory examinations.
  10. Mobilize communities and conduct public outreach to provide migrant populations and host communities with sufficient information about tuberculosis; to raise awareness about TB, the symptoms of TB, and infection prevention and control practices to prevent the spread of TB.
  11. Conduct proper documentation of newly diagnosed TB cases for follow up and contact tracing; record TB patients’ full information, contacts, referrals, treatment, and follow up with NTP.
  12. Performs any other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirement

V. Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in radiologic technology, radiology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working as an X-ray technician.
  • A minimum of 1 - 2 years working experience in a healthcare facility as an x-ray or radiology technician.

VI. Languages:

  • Dari and Pashto required
  • English is desirable
