About FAO: FAO Afghanistan is investing across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan in resilience reinforcing actions that focus on protecting agriculture livelihoods and local ecosystems, boosting local production of nutritious foods and cash-incomes, and safeguarding critical agriculture sectoral development gains achieved over the past couple of decades through revitalizing rural markets and economy. In particular, FAO provides a combination of humanitarian and basic needs/non-humanitarian assistance to female and male farmers and herders across Afghanistan in the agriculture, livestock, irrigation and natural resources sub-sectors through its projects and programs, as described in the 2024 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) and the United Nations Strategic Framework for Afghanistan (UNSFA) 2023-2025, specifically under UNSFA Priority 2 Economic Opportunities and Resilient Livelihoods.
Job Description
There are eight positions one for each duty station (Kabul, Jalalabad, Gardez, Bamyan, Kunduz, Mazar-e-sharif, Herat, and Kandahar)
Reporting Lines
The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Head of Unit for Logistics, Transportation & Assets, Afghanistan. S/he will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Regional Office or the Facilities Specialist, who will also be responsible for all day-to-day operational support and the performance evaluation.
Technical Focus
Provision of maintenance support for FAO premises.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Provide logistical assistance during workshops, seminars and training including arrangement of tea break/lunches.
- Carry out services such as: movement of files, dispatch of paper/mail within the offices, loading/unloading including movement of office supplies and goods, making photocopies and other tasks as assigned by FAO staff and project administrative focal point;
- Assist the Office Guards in checking and making sure that all office equipment, lights, ACs, heaters are switched off after official working hours;
- Maintain a well-organized and tidy office environment;
- Support the upkeep of office spaces, corridors, restrooms, and meeting areas to ensure they remain presentable at all times;
- Ensure hygienic standard of sanitary facilities;
- Provide day-to-day assistance to the office staff and ensure good working condition is maintained;
- Upkeeping and maintaining the hygiene of office spaces, eg: room floors, walls, doors, windows, carpets etc.;
- Provide hospitality for the office visitors;
- Assist the office with outgoing/incoming pouch and provide other clerical tasks as needed;
Daily clearing of all wastepaper and garbage in and around the offices; - Ensure waste disposal is done properly and maintain an environment friendly and clean waste bins at the designated places(s);
- Ensure adequate stock status of toilet rolls, soaps, cleaning/washing liquid etc.;
- Report for duty as and when necessary (on call);
- Perform any other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements
- Completion of Primary Education; Secondary Education is desirable, OR at least five (5) years of relevant work experience in maintaining the office premises for large international /UN organizations.
- Working knowledge of English language (both spoken and written).
- Excellent knowledge of local languages (Pashto and Dari), both spoken and written
- National of Afghanistan.

Technical/Functional Skills
- Good knowledge of facilities maintenance rules and regulations;
- Security training will be considered as an advantage;
- Previous work experience with the UN is considered a strong asset;
- Attention to detail to ensuring hygienic standard of facilities at all the times;
- Ability to organize documents in office space, and replenish supplies;
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with other staff/colleagues from different cultural backgrounds and with relevant counterparts.
