Job Description

Job Purpose:

Gender Officer post is designed to provide overall practical/technical assistance to Kandahar Refugee Organization team members in order to enhance their capacity in the implementation of KRO ongoing projects. And; to work under the direct supervision of line-manager/supervisor.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Overall responsibility of Gender Officer is to ensure gender mainstreaming in the organization, gender technical inputs are given to all programs, ensure that staff have gender capacity to implement their project/program activities in accordance with KRO rules and regulations, provide technical/practical assistance to the involved team members upon the necessity either at site or in the office.

Responsibilities of the Job:

  • Ensure gender mainstreaming in the organization considering gender perspectives and gender technical inputs are given to all programs
  • Ensure that staff have gender capacity to implement their project/program activities in accordance with KRO rules and regulations.
  • Ensure the practical implementation of activities according KRO designed action plan.
  • Provide technical/practical assistance to the involved team members upon the necessity either at site or in the office.
  • Participate in regular Gender Focal Points monthly/quarterly meetings, KRO staff meetings and trainings.
  • Conducting gender related trainings to KRO staff members
  • Coordinate Bi-annually assess of the gender policy, recruitment, and the implementation of the project activities and take corrective action where the policy and project activities are not being followed.
  • Be part of the recruiting committee to ensure that gender is considered in the recruitment process.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports for submission to your line-manager/supervisor in a timely manner.
  • As requested, assist in planning for, and facilitate or participate fully in meetings related to the program activities.
  • Ability to perform field assignments and willingness to travel to project sites.
  • Any other duties as required

Job Requirement

The following knowledge, skills and abilities maybe acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on the job training:

  • Bachelor degree

  • At least 2 years gender and development experiences

  • Highly proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Good knowledge of gender issues.

  • Experience the integrating gender perspective in the project plans and monitoring.

  • Ability to work as a team

  • Familiar with the work of NGOs.

  • Good command of oral and written English. Computer literacy is an added advantage.
