Job Description
Job purpose:
As part of Acted’s 02 FIB Project, the assignment of a Protection and PSS officer is to ensure the safety, well-being, and protection of targeted individuals and communities/ISETs. she should conduct assessments, develop protection strategies, provide psychosocial support, build capacity, monitor and report on protection concerns, coordinate with stakeholders, advocate for rights, and contribute to project evaluation and learning. her goal is to address protection risks, promote psychosocial well-being, and advocate for vulnerable populations.
Under the guidance of the Project officer and Manager, the Protection and PSS officer will act as a focal point for all Protection and PSS related activities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to identify protection risks and needs
- Develop and implement protection strategies and plans
- Provide psychosocial support to target individuals and communities/ISET at community center and community level.
- Provide accountability trainings to Community information committees (CIC) and youth committees (YC)
- Support the advocacy activities
- Build capacity through training and guidance on protection principles
- Monitor and report on the implementation of protection activities
- Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders
- Advocate for the rights and protection of affected individuals and communities
- Contribute to project evaluation and learning processes
- Considering gender, protection, and GBV concerns in all aspects of activities
- Promoting of and adhering to Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse policy and guidelines (for site residents, ACTED staff, partner agencies, casual labors)
- Supporting and promoting participation of women, youth, people with specific needs and marginalized groups in camp governance mechanisms and activities
- Referring to and following up with protection partners on identification and addressing of cases of vulnerability within the sites.
- Coordinating assistance to vulnerable individuals at camp events with protection partners and other humanitarian agencies (like distribution, registration, etc)
- Ensuring that all interventions are carried out through a vulnerability lens and whenever site maintenance or activities are implemented, always consider accessibility to infrastructure and inclusion of people with specific needs
Job Requirement
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Development studies, Medical, Psychology, social science.
- 2- 3 year relevant experience in PSS or protection field.
- Minimum two years of experience in international and/or local NGO; ideally involved in the direct implementation of field level humanitarian assistance to IDPs and returnees.
- Able to manage a high workload and meet tight deadlines
- Good numerical, report writing and administration skills; committed to consultative and servant-minded leadership; able to set clear objectives for staff and to delegate; able to enforce procedures.
- Ability to train, mobilize, and manage national staff
- Proven ability to work creatively and independently both in the field and in the office.
- Proficiency in English and local languages (DARI & PASHTO ), both oral and written.
- Excellent communication skills with the community and stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
