Job Description

Context:

Under the overall supervision of Protection Officer and the direct supervision of Senior Project Assistant, the Protection Screener will be based in IOM Reception Centers (in Spin Boldak or Torkham) or in Kabul and he/she will be responsible to assist the Protection Unit in screening, identifying and referring the most vulnerable undocumented returnees in the border crossing points. 

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

 

Physical presence at border point either during the evening or day shifts depending on the peak of push back and return.

Participate in the briefing of all undocumented returnees over IOM Protection Assistance.

Contribute to provide information about the Awaaz Afghanistan-UN call Center services as accountability feedback mechanism to undocumented returnees in border point.

Keep regular contact with DoRR staff at border point and with Protection staff in the province of duty station and in Kabul to assist the coordination of any issues related to the return.

In close coordination partner present at the border points, assist in the process of identification, protection screening and referral of the most vulnerable cases and verify that no vulnerable and protection cases are excluded from the humanitarian assistance.

Participate in the provision of capacity building to partners at the borders on the identification, protection screening and referral of protection cases.

Keep regular updates and figures of the overall return (pushed back, deported and spontaneous returnees) reports to Protection staff in Kabul.

Perform any other tasks assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirement

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree in social work, law, international relations, human rights, political science or a related field from an accredited academic institution with One year of relevant professional experience.

or

High school diploma in the above fields of studies with three years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

Minimum one (1) year experience of screening, identification

Experience working in the protection sector is an advantage.

Experience working directly with beneficiaries in field locations in an advantage.

 

SKILLS

 

Good written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties (required).

Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills (required).

Flexibility in working overtime when needed (required).

Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel) (required).

Willing to collaborate with and support people from different ethnic groups and different religions (required).

Languages

For all Applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

Working knowledge of Pashto or Dari is required.

Fluency in all national language(s) are highly advantages.
