Job Description
SUMARRY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agronomist to join our team. The Agronomist will play a crucial role in supporting the selection of beneficiaries, establishing greenhouses, and conducting training programs focused on cash crops and vegetable cultivation. This position is integral to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the livelihoods of our beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities
1. Beneficiary Selection
Criteria Development: Develop clear criteria for selecting beneficiaries who will participate in the greenhouse and vegetable cultivation programs.
Assessment: Conduct assessments and surveys to identify and select eligible beneficiaries based on the established criteria.
Community Engagement: Engage with local communities and stakeholders to ensure transparent and inclusive beneficiary selection processes.
- 2. Greenhouse Establishment
Site Identification: Identify suitable locations for the establishment of greenhouses in collaboration with local partners and beneficiaries.
Design and Setup: Oversee the design, construction, and setup of greenhouses, ensuring they are tailored to the local climate and conditions.
Resource Allocation: Ensure the provision of necessary resources, materials, and equipment for greenhouse establishment.
3. Training and Capacity Building
Training Programs: Develop and conduct training programs for beneficiaries on cash crop and vegetable cultivation techniques.
Curriculum Development: Create comprehensive training materials and curricula that cover all aspects of greenhouse management, crop selection, planting, maintenance, and harvesting.
Hands-On Support: Provide hands-on training and ongoing technical support to beneficiaries to ensure successful implementation of cultivation practices.
- 4. Cultivation and Promotion of Vegetables
Crop Selection: Advise beneficiaries on the selection of appropriate cash crops and vegetables based on market demand and local conditions.
Best Practices: Promote best practices in vegetable cultivation, including soil preparation, irrigation, pest management, and post-harvest handling.
Market Linkages: Facilitate linkages between beneficiaries and local markets to promote the sale and distribution of cultivated vegetables.
5. Monitoring and Evaluation
Progress Monitoring: Regularly monitor the progress of greenhouse projects and cultivation activities, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
Data Collection: Collect and analyze data on crop yields, beneficiary participation, and training outcomes.
Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on project activities, outcomes, and impact for internal and external stakeholders.

Job Requirement
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in agronomy or agricultural development, with a focus on greenhouse management and vegetable cultivation.
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of cash crop and vegetable cultivation practices.
- Strong training and capacity-building skills.
- Excellent communication and community engagement abilities.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Language: Proficiency in English and fluency in local languages.
