Program/Department Summary The Mercy Corps Finance Department is responsible for all financial functions in Afghanistan, including accounting, payments and banking, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, Tax, and grant financial management and compliance. The Mercy Corps Finance Department ensures compliance with donor regulations as well as Mercy Corps’ internal policies and procedures. In its role as a support to the Program Department, the Finance Department provides timely reports and assistance to the Country Director and the Program team to ensure that financial resources are used efficiently and effectively. Success Summary Has ability to support programmatic objectives with timely and meaningful financial information is essential. A demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing program activities is necessary. An impeccable professional standard of finance and procurement ethics as well as the willingness and ability to enforce compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies and procedures is essential. Job Description
Background: The “Lifesaving integrated emergency response to vulnerable crisis-affected populations in Afghanistan” (BHA)” program is a humanitarian intervention that aims to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable households affected by the protracted conflict leading to the economic crisis in Herat Kandahar and Balkh provinces. The program is funded by BHA USAID and implemented by Mercy Corps-Afghanistan (MCA).
Purpose / Project Description: Hygiene promotion is one of the key activities of the WASH project. It aims to raise awareness and change behaviors related to hygiene practices, such as handwashing, safe water storage, and waste management. To implement hygiene promotion, the project will select and train Hygiene promoters from the target communities. The hygiene promoters will receive hygiene kits and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials to support their work. The Hygiene promoters will conduct hygiene sessions with different groups, such as community members, school children, health center staff, and beneficiaries of WASH interventions. The hygiene promoters will also visit households to provide personalized advice and feedback on hygiene practices. The hygiene promoters will use participatory methods, such as games, demonstrations, and discussions, to deliver clear and consistent messages on good hygiene practices.
Hygiene promotion through community hygiene workers (CHW), includes selecting, training, kits for CHWs, IEC materials, and group/HHs sessions: The CHWs who will conduct hygiene promotion sessions within communities, schools, health centers, households, and distribution points; conduct household visits to inform and motivate families to improve their hygiene practices. Animate focus group, giving clear messages on good hygiene practice.
Job Requirement
Responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of the CM/Hygiene Promotion Officers to facilitate and conduct hygiene Promotion training to their communities.
- Assess the training needs of the target population, plan hygiene and sanitation training.
- Ensure that sustainable systems are set in place for longer term, hygiene promotion needs including provision of all necessary training.
- Regularly visits project sites to deliver hygiene and sanitation awareness campaigns.
- In close liaison with the CM/HP Officers, assist with monitoring & evaluating the team.
- Timely prepares and submits work plans and required reports.
- Ensures networking and coordination of activities with community elders and CDCs.
- In consultation with CM/HP Officers, ensure regular monitoring of program activities to determine the success of interventions and recommend changes by CM/HP Officers.
- Provide regular feedback on performance and areas for improvement.
- Working closely with the water and sanitation engineering team to mobilize the communities to support the construction and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities such as water points, latrines etc.
- Performs any other task assigned by CM/HP Officers.
