About Ansari Rehabilitation Association for Afghanistan (ARAA): Ansari Rehabilitation Association for Afghanistan (ARAA) is a national, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, established in 1992 for serving the people of Afghanistan through its operation in sectors of agriculture/irrigation, water and sanitation, education, reintegration, social services, and construction, as well it has been established to provide humanitarian supports, based on the principles of human rights, Islamic and cultural values of our country, and environmental and socio-economic sustainability to the vulnerable people of Afghanistan. In continuation of its 2024 program operational plan, ARAA is seeking for a qualified person to apply for this position.
Job Description
Under the direct supervision of UNDP focal points and ARAA program and management, the Veterinary Doctor shall:
- Provide veterinary care and treatment to animals in the Herat region, including livestock, working animals, and pets.
- Conduct regular health check-ups and vaccinations for animals to prevent the spread of diseases.
- Perform surgical procedures and medical interventions as necessary for the well-being of animals.
- Educate and raise awareness among local communities and animal owners on best practices for animal health and welfare.
- Work with local authorities and partners to establish and implement disease control and prevention programs.
- Provide training and mentorship to local animal health workers to improve their skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with other ARAA and UNDP staff to integrate animal health and welfare into broader community development and resilience-building initiatives.
- Conduct research and data collection to assess the health status of animals and identify emerging health issues.
- Develop and implement protocols for disease surveillance and outbreak response.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of veterinary interventions on animal health and welfare.
- Ensure compliance with relevant veterinary regulations and standards.
- Manage and maintain veterinary equipment, medications, and supplies.
- Participate in emergency response efforts related to animal health and welfare during natural disasters or other crises.
- Foster positive relationships with local stakeholders, including farmers, community leaders, and government officials.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable agriculture and livestock management practices to improve the overall well-being of animals and communities.
Job Requirement
- Degree in Veterinary Medicine from a recognized institution.
- Minimum three years of relevant working experience in UN, INGO or NGO
- Having strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of community is necessary
- Record of good performance from the previous employer
- Ability to write and verbally communicate clearly and concisely in English, Dari or Pashto
- Well-developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations
- Ability and willingness to travel to IDP areas at short notice during working hours
- Ability to understand protection and analyze the situation of IDPs in Good English Writing, knowing Pashto is an asset
- Respect the organizational culture, and commitment to Code of Conduct
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Be flexible well develop interpersonal and team skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish good communication
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a veterinarian, preferably in a rural or resource-limited setting.
- Strong knowledge of animal health and welfare, disease control, and preventive medicine.
- Experience in training and capacity building activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
