About War Child: War Child flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women and their families through its Justice, Education and Opportunity programs with child protection and gender across all its programs. The Afghanistan Country Program is currently undergoing an exciting expansion with newly secured long-term funding for programs in eight provinces Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Kundoz, Takhar, Logar and Badakhshan, Samngan and will expand its program to other new provinces.
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Senior Officer Civil Society Engagement will be responsible for working closely with the Coordinator on all CSO-related activities. He/she will lead to engage, train, and provide technical assistance to civil societies organizations including Peer-networks to advocate for the elimination of Bacha Bazi including abusive/ harmful practices in the relevant communities. He/she will be responsible for developing an action plan for the advocacy and awareness raising on the relevant issues and as well to organize monthly meetings with the relevant CSOs and stakeholders. Also, he/she will manage granting and implementation of the small-scale awards to CSOs.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
- Conduct mapping of all relevant CSOs in target locations
- Support and contribute to a development action plan for the advocacy and awareness raising on the issues relating to countering Bach Bazi,
- Meeting with the CSO alliance and assessing their existing capacity related to advocacy on Bacha Bazi including abusive/ harmful practices.
- Conduct training on advocacy for CSO representatives, youth activists, youth network, and peer network.
- Conduct monthly meetings with CSOs to discuss the progress, key achievements, and barriers toward effective advocacy on the issues related to Bacha Bazi including abusive/ harmful practices.
- Release call for applications for small grants to the CSOs alliance,
- Receive and review small grant applications from CSOs with the review committee.
- Provide technical support and monitor the implementation of small grant projects implemented by CSOs,
- Connect and network with Young Leaders to increase their overall engagement with the initiative.
- Orient CBPM members on topics relating to SRHR and engage them in the elimination of Bacha Bazi including abusive/ harmful practices.
- File reports for activities and accomplishments on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, or as otherwise assigned.
- Prepare and submit reports to the project manager.
- Maintain all the CSOs-related documents on a regular basis.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Project Manager and WC Management
Job Requirement
Qualification:
Academic Background and Knowledge/ Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Social Work, Social Science, Humanitarian Studies, Gender Studies, International Relations, or any other relevant disciplines
- 4-5 years relevant experience,
- Additional qualification or certification of Project Management Professionals or any related programming is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of advocacy-related issues
Skills
- Excellent communication skills both in writing and oral including presentation, networking, and interpersonal skills: English, Pashto, Dari
- Excellent computer, MS Office skills
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Good reporting and writing skills
- Culture sensitive and respect for local norms
- Confidentiality and privacy
- Willingness to travel and stay in remote areas and inhospitable environment
