About War Child: War Child flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women and their families through its Justice, Education and Opportunity programs with child protection and gender across all its programs. The Afghanistan Country Program is currently undergoing an exciting expansion with newly secured long-term funding for programs in eight provinces Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Kundoz, Takhar, Logar and Badakhshan, Samngan and will expand its program to other new provinces.

Job Description

Position Summary:

Youth educator is responsible for educating youth and adolescents on peers’ education, prevention of Bacha Bazi, abusive/ harmful traditional practices, and a variety of topics. He/she will conduct awareness-raising sessions for youth and adolescent survivors of abuse, exploitation, and trafficking on a community level.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Review and refine existing training modules on youth education, peer networking, and peer education including abusive/ harmful traditional practices.
  • Prepare a training delivery plan and conduct awareness raising session
  • Work with supervisor in planning and implementing activities related to, peer education, youth education, and PSS.  
  • Providing education to youths and adolescents including awareness sessions on reproductive health (RH) with a focus on peer education and healthy lifestyles
  • Refer youth and adolescents, who need PSS counseling
  • Visit the field and conduct awareness-raising sessions etc for the CBPM members and build their capacity when needed
  • File reports for activities and accomplishments on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, or as otherwise assigned.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the supervisor
  • Identify, collect, and record success stories/cases studies and best-practiced activities for improvement of the programs on regular bases
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Project Manager and WC Management

Job Requirement

Qualification:

Academic Background and Knowledge/ Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Education, General Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health) with 3-4 years of working experience
  • Additional qualification or certification in Mental Health, Health Education, Psychology, Counseling, or in another relevant field is highly desirable
  • Ability to manage a large No of youths and adolescents.
  • Strong understanding of MHPSS in Afghan context 

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills both in writing and oral including presentation, networking, and interpersonal skills: English, Pashto, Dari
  • Excellent computer, MS Office skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good reporting and writing skills
  • Should be familiar with the area’s cultural traditions and its sensitiveness
