Job Description
ABOUT THE JOB
The Protection officer, under the direct supervision of Protection Team Leader, is primarily responsible for advocacy, monitoring partners’ activities, liaising with government and other key stakeholders and trainings to the field. The job holder has constant communication with Protection Team leader for protection/legal technical purposes and receives feedback as well.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to DRC partner organization in project implementation
- Deliver awareness training to the field
- Engage the men and women of the community in discussions around women’s rights and gender based violence;
- Conduct basic awareness raising sessions on basic protection principles and GBV issues
- Capacity building of relevant govt. departments
- Provide referrals of human rights’ violations and GBV issues to appropriate organizations for further assistance and support
- Attend relevant cluster/working group meetings hosted by other NGOs and UN agencies that address protection and human rights issues of concerned population
- Draft reports detailing human rights’ violations and issues related to protection/GBV and efforts to mitigate or eliminate them
- Collect information on IDPs/returnee’s population movements and forced return
- Support protection department to find possible gaps in communities and address appropriately
- Support protection related advocacy initiatives
- Provide support in need assessment surveys for future programming
- weekly and monthly reports

Job Requirement
We Offer:
- Contract length: till 31st of December 2023 with the possibility of extension.
- Band: NMH
- Designation of Duty Station: Area Office West -Herat.
- DRC has Flexible working hours for Females staff as per DRC Policy.
- 13th month’s salary Will be paid by end of each month with salary.

ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role you must have:
Experience and technical competencies:
- 2-3 years Working experience with communities especially in GBV programming
- Essential knowledge of IDPs/returnee’s populations
- Knowledge of national law and/or human rights principles and laws
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, proven self-initiative and problem solving abilities
- A commitment to protecting human rights
Education/qualifications:
- University degree, law and/or other social sciences faculties
- Familiarity with Afghan laws
- Ability to clearly express one’s thoughts, to analyze and present information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to set priorities and show initiative, to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
Languages:
- Good knowledge of English and fluency in Dari
