About Rehabilitation Association and Agriculture Development for Afghanistan (RAADA): Rehabilitation Association and Agriculture Development for Afghanistan (RAADA) started its humanitarian activities in 2002. As a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), RAADA started working in Herat Province and extended its activities in western Afghanistan (Herat, Farah, Ghor, and Badghis Provinces) with the Vision “Poverty no Longer Exists in the World” and the Mission Statement “Mitigating Poverty and Contributing to Reconstruction and Development Process in Afghanistan through Community-based Solutions and Interventions” Having a good analysis of the community needs, qualified staff, and sound management procedures, RAADA has designed and implemented various projects on Livelihood, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Human Rights, Women Empowerment, Disaster Risk Reduction, Water Supply, Health, and Hygiene with the financial support it has received from CAID, JICA, Tawanmandi-DFID, US Embassy, UNHCR, WAR CHILD UK, UNFAO, WFP, WHH, DRC, Italian Cooperation, IRC and CRS.

Job Description

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of the project interventions in the targeted districts of Herat and Farah provinces. The manager will be based in Herat province and will be in close coordination with the provincial supervisor of Farah province for the quality and effective implementation of the project activities, coordination with stakeholders, regulating and monitoring the progress of the field staff, writing project reports (monthly quarterly, and final), and establishing good communication with all stakeholders. In addition, the project manager will conduct routine visits to the project site (targeted districts of Herat and Farah provinces) and monitor the progress of the project activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and revision of detailed implementation plans for the project team.
  • Prepare on-time high quality project reports (Monthly, Quarterly, and Final) 
  • Monitoring the progress of the project activities through routine site visits and periodic meetings with local stakeholders.
  • Work closely and conduct regular meetings with the program team to implement the planned activities according to the set target in addition to that provide weekly update reports to the program team regarding the progress of project activities.
  • Carry out field-based needs assessments and gap analyses and communicate through proper channels.
  • Ensure that the project activities are in line with the standards and ethical principles of RAADA.
  • Responsible to deliver orientation sessions to key project staff regarding RAADA and its donor’s policies and code of conduct.
  • Work closely with the monitoring personnel to monitor project activities on a regular basis and find out the gaps sharing the gaps with the team and making a proper action plan
  • Ensure that the project is on track in the sense of indicators and immediate outcomes
  • Any other duties as assigned by the program supervisor from time to time.

  • Being accountable to the policies and abiding by the code of conduct that applies to RAADA’s personnel
  • Providing timely and quality reporting
  • Work together with all the key stakeholders: ensure organizational objectives, mission, and vision are met
  • Being able to travel within Afghanistan when required
  • Being able to travel to the project site (Targeted districts of Herat and Farah provinces)
  • Able to manage the project team and its interventions.

Job Requirement

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Highly experienced in the project implementation strategy
  • Highly experienced in project cycle management (PCM)
  • Experience working in a multi-organizational context with partners stakeholders and beneficiaries
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of people
  • Good knowledge of the project site (targeted districts of Herat and Farah provinces)

Qualifications/Other Requirements:

  • At least a bachelor's degree from an approved university (preferably in the agriculture field)
  • At least 3 years of proven experience as a "project manager" with an NGO on an agriculture project and value chain development
  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written)
  • Excellent report-writing skills and experience
  • Ability to produce timely and accurate reports
  • Strong computer skills especially with MS Word and Excel and other related packages
  • Good conceptual thinking skills and ability to develop diverse and innovative solutions to problems
  • Good team-building and communication skills
