About War Child: War Child flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women and their families through its Justice, Education and Opportunity programs with child protection and gender across all its programs. The Afghanistan Country Program is currently undergoing an exciting expansion with newly secured long-term funding for programs in eight provinces Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Kundoz, Takhar, Logar and Badakhshan, and will expand its program to other new provinces.
Job Description
Position summary:
Working under the supervision of the MHPSS Technical Manager/ Specialist and in collaboration with the Social Workers and other WFHS staffs, the Youth Educator will ensure outreach for adolescents and youth and provide age-appropriate awareness sessions related to health lifestyle, PSS, reproductive health, GBV, harm of child marriage and other health related issues prevalent in the community. He/ She will use youth friendly approach of awareness, provide a safe platform for adolescents and youth and facilitate referral of women and girls to other services if required.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct needs assessment of the youth and adolescents for health awareness and education including healthy lifestyles, PSS, reproductive health, GBV prevention and life skills.
- Apply youth friendly approaches of awareness to provide a safe platform for adolescents and youth and referral of youth to other services as required.
- Identify and select youths and adolescent (Male and Female) as youth volunteer and for peer education activities.
- As per the needs assessment, drafting the methodology and training/workshop schedule and submission to the WC program team for approval.
- Finalize the methodology and training/workshop schedule including health education and awareness sessions, specialized youth programs and workshops.
- Prepare an awareness plan based on the needs of the youths and adolescent in the community.
- Engage youths via youth and last mile volunteers’ program.
- Provide youths peer education and youth to youth methodology focusing on health issues mentioned above.
- Provide youth education on youth-to-youth methodology focusing on health issues.
- Raising awareness of adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene and distribute MHM kits to adolescents.
- Raising awareness and education on age appropriate SRHR and PSS information, creating the space for learning about physical and psychological changes during puberty.
- Report on the conducted trainings/workshops to senior management.
- Provide information around health and reproductive health that are age and culturally appropriate.
- Support peer education programs and networks if applicable
- Youth educators can be resource persons in their locations to answer questions of young people and provide needed support to youth and adolescents.
- Work as a part of a collaborative team, providing support to other WFHS staff.
- Demonstrate key competencies including initiative, teamwork, cooperation, preparedness, professionalism, reliability, and willingness to improve continuously.
- Data collection and preparing monthly reports of the health education provided to the adolescents and youth.
- Any other tasks assigned by her supervisor.
Job Requirement
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines (Social Sciences, Education, Social Work, public health) and related backgrounds will be preferred.
- Having diploma or certificate in nursing or relevant field
- Minimum 1 years’ experiences in youth education/trainings with NGOs/INGOs.
- Experience in working with women and girls and protection services in the field.
Skills:
- Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Fluent in Dari/ Pashto, both written and spoken.
- Ability to write short and concise reports.
- Skilled at working as a team member.
- Possess group facilitation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Computer Skills, (MS office)
- Good reporting writing skills
- Culturally sensitive and keep confidentiality
