About AWSDC: Organization Brief Background: The Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC) founded in 1999 is a national non-governmental organization (NGO), dedicated to the promotion and protection of the rights of women in Afghanistan and supporting Afghans to live in peace. AWSDC key thematic focus areas are Peacebuilding, Women Rights/GBV, Livelihoods, WASH and Humanitarian Response. The organization geographical areas are Kabul, Kunduz, Faryab, Herat, Balkh and Samangan Provinces. The organization since the startup of first wave of COVID-19 has provided humanitarian assistance to nearly 65,000 COVID-19 affected men, women and children under its geographical areas. Likewise, AWSDC is one of Humanitarian Actors that provides protection, WASH and Emergency Shelter and None food items to vulnerable Afghanistan across the country. AWSDC in response to the humanitarian crisis is scaling up its interventions to serve more people through provision of life savings assistance, GBV, WASH, Food/None Food Items and protection. Recently AWSDC has aligned its strategic priorities to the address the acute deficits of affected population through provision of protection services, WASH, Food Assistance and NFIs and Protection in Afghanistan. AWSDC is in the process to recruit Child Protection Manager to support the project team in the implementation of Child protection project in Guzara Jebrail and Kahdistan of Herat province.

Job Description

About the project:

AWSDC is in the process to hire competent staff to implement Child Protection in Guzara Jebrail and Kahdistan of Herat province. The focus of the project is to establish and run six Child Friendly Space (CfS) in six schools, provide community awareness on child protection, establish and strengthen Child Protection Networks (CPANs), conduct child case management, develop the capacity of staff as well as other service providers on child protection, conduct dialogue sessions with community leaders and increase community awareness on child protection and the type of services provided by AWSDC under the project.

 Position Summary:

The position holder (CP Case Management Officer) will be responsible for overseeing the work of child protection caseworkers in delivering protection assistance and services to children in line with key child protection principles including best interest of the child, confidentiality, do no harm and child participation. CP Case Management Officer will oversee the management of CP casework for host communities, internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees and other populations of concern in line with AWSDC Standard Operating Procedures, and Global minimum standards of child protection case management. CP Case Management Officer will support the management of child protection project, including planning and execution of program activities, capacity building of staff, coordination with community groups and monitoring and evaluation. The staff will be placed in AWSDC Provincial office in Herat city with frequent travel to the Guzara Jebrail and Kahdistan in Herat province.

Job Requirement

Job Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the functionality of the case management system and oversee delivery of high quality case management in accordance with SOPs and global minimum standards.
  2. Support and guide case management teams in their day to day work ensuring adherence to key child protection principles.
  3. Provide guidance to teams on identification of child protection risks and appropriate response, through one-to-one guidance or case review meetings as needed. Oversee and ensure timely response and follow up of child protection cases.
  4. Conduct regular meetings with case workers on lessons learned and best practices and provide feedback to the CP Manager.
  5. As relevant, collaborate with Department of Social Welfare staff and other key stakeholders of assigned State and Division in management of child protection cases.
  6. Ensure capacity for teams to receive and make referrals, with access to service mapping that is updated regularly.
  7. Developing messages for awareness raising with parents, teachers and community leaders through these services.
  8. Contribute to creation and dissemination of key protection messages on child rights and wellbeing, raising issues on child protection issues such as child marriage and child labor.
  9. Participate in, and as needed organize regional/provincial child protection meetings/workshops and provide feedback to CP Manager on discussions and outcomes.
  10. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders including community leaders, NGOs community-based organizations and other AWSDC sectors to enhance cooperation and coordination
  11. Coordinate with CP Manager in other locations on project implementations.
  12. Provide regular progress reporting on cases to CP Manager for donor reporting.
  13. Support CP Manager by providing data on CP cases and trends as requested

 Any other tasks assigned by the project manager/child friendly space supervisor
