Job Description
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of Shelter Engineer, the shelter assistant will be responsible for the implementation of Shelter project in Herat. The main purpose of this position is day to day implementation of the Shelter Projects including shelter upgrade/repair cash for rent and durable solutions and to work closely with community’s/ and local authorities for repair/construction of shelters infrastructures shelter upgrade/repair and cash for rental shelter solution at community level. Ensure quality of construction materials works and service and monitor safety of the workers by using safety tools in construction site
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Have understanding of all programs’ goals objectives implementation plan and expected result / output.
- Responsible for assessments; project planning implementation and monitoring of cash for rent and shelter activities.
- Contribute actively to project planning implementation quality control and monitoring of construction activities
- The shelter assistant is responsible of estimating the quantities should be aware of local and regional market and should conduct market survey.
- Organize/contribute to technical assessments related to shelter (Cash for rent shelter upgrading and construction of permanent shelters etc.) and other construction activities technical documents (design and BOQ).
- Inspect and monitor shelter construction and other infrastructures
- Report any changes in the design and contribute to alternative solution.
- Responsible for all the phases of the Shelter school and cash for rent including but not limited to; beneficiary selection project planning field assistant project implementation and evaluation.
- Responsible for quality construction of Shelter activities in communities and in target areas.
- Monitor construction activities regularly and within the agreed timeframe.
- Responsible for raising PRs and distribution of hygiene materials.
- Work under the direct supervision of Shelter officer/Coordinator for field-based activities and community mobilizations
- Organize and contribute to activities for achieving deliverables required in the project log frame.
- Produce reports regularly as per the project requirement.
- Be willing to travel throughout the districts and other provinces this is primarily a field position and will require physical activity in a range of demanding natural environments and conditions.
- Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions and marked based programs in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within IRW’s core competencies
- Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions including multi-purpose cash assistance emergency cash responses
- Any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor
Job Requirement
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Masters level qualification in Civil Engineering is preferable
- 2 to 3 years of experience in the field of humanitarian.
- Good capacity building and management skills, including human resource and financial management, communications, and intercultural cooperation skills
- Strong knowledge of MS office and Engineering software
- Good oral and written communication skills in Dari or Pashtun language.
- Must have knowledge of key humanitarian principles and other international laws and Sphere Standards
- Good English language written, and oral communication skills are required
