Job Description
Mechanic-Driver performs as Truck Fleet Driver as normal circumstance in convoy, responsible and lead for repairs in fields while in convoy or, travel and resale breakdown vehicle from field to base.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Convoy Leader, the incumbent shall perform the following duties:
1. Perform identical duties as Truck Fleet Driver, as indicated below, but with the additional responsibilities
of:
- Travel on convoy as one of drivers or attend on convoy as Mechanic-Driver, or travel as rescue team for any breakdown of WFP vehicle in the fields.
- Lead to diagnose defect and repair it in case of breakdown or repair need in field during in convoy.
- Ensure essential tools and spare parts are available in convoy and estimate any additional needs according to the type of mission and area of mission expected.
- Assist Convoy Leader in. making decision with providing opinion of the best method of repair based on estimate time of repair and situation evaluated.
- Responsible to record detailed info of all repair works done, VID, Date/Time, Location, Odometer, Work Done, Spare Parts used...and etc, and provide concerned staff on arrival from mission for raising job-Card and data entries.
Assis tin workshop activities while' staying in base as requested.
2. Drive assigned vehicle for transporting of authorized cargo, food and non-food items.
3. Ensure quantity and quality of cargo loaded and offloaded is precisely recorded in the waybill and endorse.
4. Ensure that the cargo loaded is safely transported to the destination free from contamination, losses or damage, and held accountable for the same.
5. Perform a daily inspection on assigned vehicle and ensure that they are mechanically sound and report any problems or defects to immediate supervisor.
6. Ensure that the vehicle assigned is thoroughly cleaned and maintained in a good mechanical condition,
7. Ensure that the Vehicle Logbook is duly completed on a daily and timely basis free from errors to maintain
good records.
8. Ensure that assigned vehicle is always fuelled on time and make sure that the fuel consumption figures are maintained within the established parameters as set by WFP.
9. Held responsible and accountable for vehicle and any equipment or accessories given to the driver (and signed for) and ensure that it remains in good condition.
10. Drive always in a safe and careful manner with due respect traffic rules/regulation and care for avoiding damages on the assigned vehicle.
11. Whilst the vehicle is in the workshop for repairs & maintenance activities, attend and assist workshop activities as required.
12. Travel to only authorized destinations and only load authorized cargo, under no circumstance shall deviate from this unless authorized by Fleet Manager/AO Fleet OIC.
- Read and understand specific vehicle operating manual to ensure the safe and appropriate operations of the vehicle.
- Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations set by WFP are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
- Will perform any other duties as requested by immediate Supervisor.
Job Requirement
- Holder of a valid, clean driving licence in accordance to the vehicle category assigned to drive in accordance to National Regulations.
- Must have had at least 5 years minimum experience preferably 8 years gained in driving of heavy duty truck in Afghanistan.
- Physically fit and health to achieve the duties described in above and age below 60 years old.
- Must have at least 2 years experience in heavy duty vehicle repair workshop.
Performance Criteria:
- Fuel consumption figures maintained within parameters set.
- Achieve repairs in field during convoy and minimum delay in convoy movement, and rescue breakdown vehicles with minimal time.
- Complete all vehicle administrative documents (Vehicle Log books, Way Bills..) accurately and correctly and in turn, hand them over to Transport Officer on a timely basis.
- None or minimal cargo losses/damages with providing clear and acceptable justification.
- Vehicle maintained in good mechanical condition, limited tire wear and free from any breakages caused by careless driving.
