About Afghan Family Guidance Association |AFGA: Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world.

Job Description

The Regional/Provincial Coordinator works under direct guidance & supervision of the Project Manager. The Regional/Provincial Coordinator will be based in Herat province, h/she will work closely with the Project Assistants and Field Staff and would be responsible for the overall technical and managerial aspects of the project in his/her region. He/ She will also be responsible to coordinate project activities with the relevant governmental bodies & directorates and receive their recommendations for the smooth implementation of the project in his/her assigned region.

Job Description:

  • Responsible to lead and manage the project’s technical and operational/field staff at the provincial & regional levels.
  • Play a key role in the achievement of the intended results and objectives of the project in the targeted provinces.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the project’s technical aspect and overseeing the implementation of the project activities in line with the project’s work plan.
  • Take an active part in the management and overseeing AFGA’s provincial & regional procurements, finance, HR, admin, and other technical and support functions.
  • Effectively manage relationships with the project staff at the provincial/regional level and ensure need-based communications at all stages of the project.
  • Provide guidance and support to all provincial & field staff to achieve the expected outcomes.
  • Conduct frequent visits to the project sites including districts and villages where the project runs.
  • In close coordination with the M&E team, conduct regular monitoring on project activities and report deviations to the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate all provincial & regional activities with all project stakeholders at the provincial & regional level and attend all stakeholder meetings regularly.
  • Assist in the development of work plans for all project staff based in the assigned provinces/region on the basis of the project’s consolidated work plan.
  • Coordinate and establish sound working networks with concerned government & non-government authorities, e.g. MoPH Directorates at regional levels.
  • Oversight and supervise all provincial/regional level activities and provide suggestions for improvement of the project activities.
  • Ensure that AFGA’s assets/inventory is properly assigned, documented, and kept in each province. Be accountable for all office assets.
  • Act as liaison between the AFGA’s management and the field staff.
  • Prepare weekly, bi-monthly & monthly reports to the Project Manager.
  • Any other project specific tasks assigned by the Project Manager from time to time.

Job Requirement

  • MD degree or BBA (MD degree will be preferable).
  • Excellent facilitation skills to work with a wide range of people and manage different groups of people.
  • Excellent report & success stories writing skills.
  • Strong oral and written skills in English, Dari, and Pashto.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in similar fields with NGOs or Humanitarian Organizations.
  • Strong team orientation and staff development skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Ms. Office, Windows, Internet).
  • Ability to travel to various provinces of Afghanistan.
