Job Description

Key responsibilities:                           

Under the line-management of the REACH Senior GIS Officer, and oversight of the REACH Data Specialist and IMPACT Country Coordinator, the GIS Officer will fulfill the following functions:

  1. General
  • Preparation, conception and production of maps, including the supervision and monitoring of mapping-related data collection and ensuring dynamic linkages between GIS data and IMPACT Database;
  • Co-developing GIS components in proposals and supervising the implementation of these GIS components in approved projects;
  • Train the IMPACT team on usage of maps and understanding of maps;
  • Represent IMPACT in GIS related coordination meetings.
  1. Preparation, Conception, and Production of Maps
  • Identify map information needs;
  • Identify and access map information sources;
  • Ensure accurate linkages between spatial databases and assessment data;
  • Ensures that the produced maps meet the requirements of REACH and concerned partners.
  • Support in digitizing of participatory maps and their database preparations.
  • Convert data from other formats into usable, GIS datasets.
  1. Assessment Support
  • Preparation of background data, sampling frameworks
  • Support to assessment implementation, data checking, assessment operational mapping
  • Digitization of data from hard copy maps to soft-copy datasets
  • Contribution to tool development, especially ensuring the appropriate inclusion of spatial data for analysis
  • Spatial analysis of assessment findings
  • Preparation of assessment outputs (Mapping)

The GIS Officer will maintain the strictest confidentiality on all data collected and related processes. He/she will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of any information and data belonging to ACTED and its partners, or collected during his/her assignment with ACTED.

Job Requirement

  • Excellent academic qualifications, including a BA in Statistics, Economy, GIS, Information Systems, or relevant discipline;
  • Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as well as the ability to plan, take initiative and organize work independently. In addition, Impartiality, objectivity and confidentiality are imperative;
  • Good command of GIS software (especially those used by ACTED), including ArcGIS.
  • Ability to operate with Database software such as Access or Foxpro.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other data visualization and analyses software;
  • Familiarity with other information and data sources related to GIS to be recommended to ACTED for better GIS practices would be an asset.
  • Understanding the nature of the work carried out by programs is necessary for ensuring the relevancy and usability of the maps produced. Therefore, a proactive and self-motivated attitude towards gaining a good understanding of ACTED programs, innovating GIS activities and developing new GIS components for proposals is essential;
  • Willingness to learn and capacity to innovate: The GIS Officer must be inventive and eager to improve his or her own skills, and be capable to adapt, shaping, and develop tools best suited for ACTED's activities
  • Ability to travel to the field for data collection, cross-checking the data and provide training to field staff;
  • Good organizational and communication skills with international and national staff and rural communities.
  • Fluency in English required;
  • Experience developing data collection xls from kobo tools will be an added advantage.
  • Good communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently.
