Job Description

As Female phlebotomist, you will be the one who assist the pathologists, microbiologists and surgeons to collect pathological and microbiological specimen through particular standard procedures, draws blood from patients, collects a variety of other specimen samples. Also label the specimen samples that you have filled. Serves patients by preparing specimens for laboratory testing. Working under the direct supervision of the head of the department and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities

The female phlebotomist will be responsible to perform the following core duties;

  • Enter patient and specimen information into database in computer.
  • Verifies test requisitions by comparing information and patient by reading patient identification.
  • Explaining the procedure to patients and ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of specimen sample.
  • Assist the pathologists, Microbiologists and surgeons to collect pathological and microbiological specimen through particular standard procedures
  • Draws blood from patients and collects a variety of other specimen samples independently in accordance with training and procedures
  • Applying a dressing to the puncture or procedure site
  • Label vials/containers with patient names and dates as per guideline
  • Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies
  • Delivering the specimen sample to the particular laboratory department focal points within required timescales
  • Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipments
  • Keep your work station well-organized at all times
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures
  • Able to follow instructions and procedures accurately attention to detail
  • Respect for confidential and sensitive information
  • Expect to work with a patient varying in age and health status; be friendly, courteous and sympathetic when it comes to working with patients
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients’ needs

Job Requirement

  1. Education:
    1. Medical Laboratory, Nursing, Midwifery, MLT Diploma/Degree from recognized institute
    2. Certification in Phlebotomy is in asset
  2. Experience:
    1. At least 1 year work experience or Job Training on similar position
  3. Language:
    1. Good Language proficiency in Dari and Pashto
    2. Proficiency in English is an asset
  4. Computer Skills:
    1. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and Data entry
  5. Communication Skills:
    1. Good written and verbal communication skills
    2. Strong negotiation skills and ability interact with a diverse range of individuals
    3. Experience in customer support is a plus
