Job Description
Key responsibilities and tasks:
- At all times while on duty, wear the hospital uniform provided. Staff members are responsible for keeping their uniforms clean and in good repair.
- Assist in restocking the outpatient department (OPD) early each morning when the OPD nurse is away, ensuring that necessary items such as eye drops, sterile instruments, and other supplies are available.
- Perform accurate keratometry and A-scan to determine IOL power on all patients admitted for IOL surgery.
- Assist with and perform simple extraocular eye surgery under physician supervision as requested.
- Participate in clinical teaching of OTTP trainees and medical students on IAM grounds. Some technicians must also participate in preparing and giving formal instruction in the OTTP course.
- Evaluate low vision patients for use of visual aids and instruct in proper use of aides. Disburse, account for, and control a stock of low vision aids.
- Participate in eye camps and community eye work when requested.
- Fill in or assist with other work positions in cooperation with treatment room nurse and other OTs as requested: in the Wards, Treatment Rooms, Operating Room, Vision Checking, and patient database management.
- Perform work under the supervision of the Attending Physician and Medical Director.
- Help in Administrative works while project manager is on leave.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager.
Refraction Area Responsibilities:
- Accurately and efficiently evaluate all patients referred for refraction, recording findings on the patient card in a legible and detailed manner.
- Advise and educate patients about their needs and options for various types of glasses.
- Accurately assess binocular vision function, accommodation, and ocular motility, and provide appropriate management.
- Provide a clear and legible glasses prescription with adequate information for patients needing or wanting glasses.
Treatment Room Exam Area Responsibilities:
- Perform nasolacrimal duct irrigation, intraocular and blood pressure measurements, and other diagnostic procedures using clean and/or sterile techniques.
- Examine and triage patients, treat simple conditions, and refer complicated cases to IAM physicians.
- Record all findings and recommendations legibly and accurately on the patient hospital card.
Job Requirement
- At least an associate degree in Ophthalmic Technology or a related field; a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of work experience in a related field, particularly in refraction, diagnostic and therapeutic eye care, as well as teaching other ophthalmic technicians.
