About Jhpiego: Urban Health Initiative The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e- Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
• Caring for newborns until they are ready to go home.
• Providing prenatal care for high-risk newborns.
• Assisting in premature or problematic deliveries and helping if complications
arise or if medical attention is necessary immediately after birth.
• Care for infants’ nutrition to ensure optimal growth and development and find
alternative ways to feed infants who struggle with feeding.
• Assist with medications and treat Newborns with infections.
• Perform procedures/Resuscitation for Newborns with breathing difficulties in
Stabilization room.
• Provide support to parents and help them to understand and make decisions
regarding their Newborns’ condition and treatment.
• Ensure parents have sufficient opportunities to bond with their Newborns.
• Cooperation in the accurate collection of health information using existing
guidelines and forms.
• Pursuing the application and compliance of the new standards.
• Support and advise the mother on infant feeding and vaccination. Promote exclusive
breastfeeding.
• Maintain and ensure safe storage of all equipment you use. Report faults and
damaged equipment.
• Organizing, managing and controlling the Nutrition activities.
• Keep record and on time report of Nutrition activities as required.
• Attending all necessary meetings, workshops and training.
Job Requirement
Required Qualifications and Experience:
• Medical Degree from recognized Faculty and Specialization in Pediatrics approved by
MoPH.
• Proven work experience as a neonatologist or similar role for at least three- year.
• Relevant training and workshops are an advantage.
Abilities/skills:
• Fluency in local languages and English.
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Be respectful and have a proper attitude towards the Clients
• Good team worker.
• The ability to work under pressure and stress
• Strong dedication and motivation for helping newborn infants
