Job Description

  1. CONTEXT

The Women and Girls Empowerment Project is funded by UNICEF and implemented in The Western Region (Herat, Farah, and Badqhis provinces). The primary purpose of the program in Afghanistan is to reduce the violence and harmful practices against families.

  1. OBJECTIVES

The project needs to recruit a legal counselor working full–time. The overall aim is to improve the quality of legal support services to survivors of violence for the WGE project

 

 RESULTS/OUTPUTS OF WORK

Under the overall supervision of the team leader, the legal counselor will work on the following tasks to coordinate the implementation of the project with following activities:

  • Assist in the preparation of an action plan for each session and activity.
  • Conduct interviews, problem identification, and finding realities with keeping confidential of the cases related information within a trusted environment.
  • Conduct outreach campaigns to improve understanding of violence against girls and children’s issues in the targeted communities. Topics must be included triggers of violence in the home, and the impact of violence on children, the family, and the community.
  • To refer to the entities to find and track the cases.
  • Preparing monthly and weekly reports to submit to the supervisor.
  • Follow up on the individual cases to be solved through counseling,
  • Follow up on the cases after the reintegration of the beneficiaries.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars, and meetings and maintain communication with the project supervisor and manager and all parties related to the beneficiary.
  • Perform any other related tasks as directed by the project supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

4. METHODOLOGY

 The legal counselor will be supervised by the team leader to give accurate and timely counsel to women and girls in WGFS of the project, on a variety of legal topics. The legal counselor will work on a full-time basis and be located in one of the WGFS of the project. She/he is expected to travel to the field and related places of the project.

Job Requirement

  • Advanced University Degree in law, gender, development studies, international relations, or other related disciplines; 
  • Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible relevant experience, preferably in the promotion of women’s access to justice, legal training, and international and national laws and policies on gender equality and women’s rights; 
  • At least 5 years of experience in the development and provision of support programs for survivors of Violence, including legal services and advice;
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in women’s human rights programming
  • Sound knowledge of international standards on human rights, women’s rights, and related instruments
  • At least 3 years of experience in program design, implementation, reporting, and monitoring, preferably in the field of Access to Justice ;
  • Good experience in conducting workshops and management, including participatory training approaches;
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.
