About Organization for Sustainable Aid in Afghanistan - OSAA: Organization for Sustainable Aid in Afghanistan (OSAA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, women-led organization with no dependence on any political group or party and is a development and humanitarian organization. OSAA was officially registered with the Afghan Ministry of Economy as a national NGO in 2015, aiming to foster the economic and social development of society, in particular women in Afghanistan. The organization’s core founders and board of directors consist of highly educated, experienced, and goal-oriented women and men who endeavor to use their knowledge and experience to empower women and young girls through vocational training, social capacity building, education, employment services, and the development of handicrafts programs in Afghanistan. OSAA recently started a new healthcare project for the most vulnerable EQ-affected women and girls in Herat province to facilitate their treatment and counseling process.

Job Description

The medical worker will work under the new health project of OSAA to facilitate the treatment, recovery, and medical services for the most vulnerable women and mothers in Herat province under the management of the project coordinator and MD (Gyne and Obs).

Main duties

Receiving a physical examination and patient history.

Evaluating all children for acute malnutrition and recording measurements of SAM & MAM on the treatment card.
Considering the necessity of patients, writing appropriate prescription.
Provide comprehensive prenatal, labor, and postpartum care to pregnant women and new mothers, working closely with the gynecologist/obstetrician (MD)

Maintaining patients confidentiality and respecting their human dignity.
The proper registration of patient’s information.
Providing patients with information on medication usage and recommendations for follow-up visits.
Examining patients and referring complex cases to the hospital.
Coordinating with health councils to select locations for mobile health team services.
Ensuring that all medications, therapeutic foods, and non-medical equipments are available.
Organizing and scheduling the provision of mobile health services and delegating it to the appropriate authorities.

Adhere to the values, policies and procedures of Curel Hospital.
Treat the patients with respect, honoring their choices and listening to their concerns.
Speak gently with and educate patients about their condition, course of treatment, warning signs and what they should do.
Stay on-duty until the relieving shift arrives and has been fully updated.
Keep patients’ medical records thoroughly and accurately up to date and filed neatly.
Diagnose labor in new patients and admit as appropriate.

Completely fill out Labor Admission forms for new patients, and order appropriate labs.
Manage labor, which includes admitting patients, taking vitals, pelvic exams to assess labor progress, fetal heart rate monitoring and charting on the partograph.
Contact Resident and OB Doctor immediately for consultation for slow progress, risk factors, abnormalities, complications and emergencies.
Conduct normal vaginal deliveries, which include starting IVs, delivering the baby using sterile technique, managing third stage with routine IM oxytocin, suturing lacerations and charting on the Partograph and Labor and Delivery Summary.

Reporting health information by using standardized HMIS forms.
Submitting monthly reports at specific time to the Supervisor.
Any other tasks assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirement

Graduation from approved medical faculty, medical institute, or midwifery  certified by Afghanistan MOPH or MOHE. 

Having 3 years of relevant work experience in similar health centers after graduating from university.
Having strong skills in communication, verbal and written communication and report writing.
Being patient, maintaining a positive attitude and having the ability to work in crisis situations.

Two positive references from previous employers or educators.
Speaking by Afghanistan official languages
Strong written and verbal English skills.
