Job Description

The Midwife Interns will be fundamental in enhancing maternal and reproductive health services designated in Kandahar city. This role involves providing comprehensive healthcare services to women, including pre-birth care, delivery assistance, postnatal care, and family planning. Interns will gain invaluable practical experience and professional growth under the mentorship of experienced healthcare professionals. By filling the gap in the availability of midwives at health service delivery points, their efforts will significantly contribute to improving maternal and child health outcomes in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive antenatal care, including regular check-ups, monitoring fetal development, and educating expectant mothers.
  • Assist in safe delivery practices, ensuring both the mother and baby's health and safety.
  • Offer postnatal care, including monitoring the health of the mother and newborn, providing breastfeeding support, and educating mothers on newborn care.
  • Conduct family planning consultations, offering advice and information on contraceptive methods and reproductive health.
  • Engage in ongoing mentorship and support activities to enhance professional skills and competencies.

Community Engagement and Education:

  • health awarness  on  maternal health, family planning, and hygiene practices.
  • Encouraging women to seek healthcare services and make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Ensure all interactions and services provided are properly documented.
  • Report on the progress and outcomes of healthcare services delivered per the indicators, including the number of antenatal visits, deliveries assisted, postnatal visits, and family planning consultations.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with healthcare facilities  in Kandahar City.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager and Midwifery Activity Officer to ensure the smooth implementation of the project activities.

Job Requirement

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Midwifery from a registered Health Sciences institution.
  • Prior training in midwifery according to the Ministry of Public Health's curriculum. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Clinical skills in antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and under supervision.
  • Proficiency in local languages; knowledge of English is an advantage.
  • Sensitivity to cultural norms and practices.
  • Strong ethical standards and professional integrity
