Job Description
Job Purpose :
The Nutrition officer will oversee day-to-day implementation of all preventive and curative nutrition program activities under the BHA project in line with IMC nutrition minimum standards as well as aligning programming to the national IMAM guidelines and minimum package of essential MIYCN services for Afghanistan.
He/she will work with nutrition staff within the HSCs and provide them with technical support and on job training sessions.
Main Duties & Responsibilities :
- Plan and oversee the implementation of all the nutrition activities within supported HSCs and outreach sites.
- Conducting regular supportive supervision and monitoring of nutrition activities.
- Support in capacity building of the nutrition teams on IMAM and MIYCN, identify training needs/gaps and conduct regular refresher and on job training sessions.
- Collect and compile OPD SAM, OPD MAM and MIYCN reports and provide feedback to the team.
- Timely compilation of nutrition data and fulfilling nutrition data entry in online databases.
- Regular submission of weekly, biweekly, and monthly nutrition reports according to the stipulated deadlines
- Development and maintenance of nutrition filling system at provincial and health facility level ensuring that accurate beneficiary records are maintained.
- Guide nutrition staff to conduct food demonstration, formation, and facilitation of MTMSGs, Family MUAC and mass MUAC screening.
- Facilitate MIYCN sensitization sessions for key influencers on a quarterly basis.
- Check that the medical and nutritional protocols are respected: admission and discharge criteria, frequency of measurement, distribution of nutrition products and systematic treatment protocols are followed.
- Ensure proper filling of MIYCN, OPD SAM and MAM registers and referral forms and that anthropometric and nutritional data are entered correctly.
- Ensure that the health facilities keep an updated stock of all essential nutrition supplies and requisitions of nutrition supplies are made in a timely manner.
- Ensure the follow-up of attendance and the punctuality of nutrition staff across all HSCs.
- Represent International Medical Corps in all nutrition meetings with MOPH, PHCC, PHD, PND, WFP, UNICEF and Partners within the districts and provincial level.
- Monitor nutrition trends and update the manager/coordinator on areas of concern.
- Identify nutrition procurement needs and raise procurement requests on time for the HSCs.
- Manage nutrition commodities (Drugs, micronutrient supplements, nutrition commodities, NFIs, items for food demonstrations).
- Perform other duties assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirement
Qualifications :
- Afghan National.
- Graduated from a recognized medical faculty.
Experience :
- Must have a minimum of 2-3 years’ work experience in nutrition.
- Previous experience working in nutrition projects is a plus.
- Knowledge of nutrition programs especially IMAM and MIYCN. TOT in nutrition programs is preferred.
Competency :
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in team.
- Humanitarian experience in nutrition programs in Afghanistan (IMAM and MIYCN)
- Conversant with Health and Nutrition Information Management Systems and Nutrition database
- The candidate must have strong command in English, Dari and Pashto Languages.
- Computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
