Job Summary

The below responsibilities outlined for Agriculture Assistant:

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Work closely with farming communities and community/village representatives in the targeted districts/villages. work as a bridge between farming communities and the project and liaise with officials at the district level.
  • Assist in the project Agriculture needs assessment survey and beneficiaries screening and selection process.
  • Assess the existing situation of agricultural extension and rural support services in target areas.
  • Facilitate the setup of Self-Help Groups (SHG) and ensure their effective functioning.
  • Supervise active participation of SHG members in capacity-building sessions and in savings and credit activities to ensure the sustainability of the SHGs.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to farmers for kitchen gardening and other agricultural practices.
  • Prepare training manuals and schedules by identifying and describing information needs.
  • Established FFS and Conduct Regular training to the beneficiaries throughout the cropping calendar on pre-harvest management such as (cultivation, weeding, irrigation, fertigation, IPM) and post-harvest management (processing, and storage) at the district/village level.
  • Showcase best practices in kitchen gardening, including composting, organic control, crop rotation, and companion(intercropping) planting. Emphasize a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to gardening.
  • Conduct practical work and site visits to ensure the utilization of the skills and knowledge gained through training.
  • Lead the distribution of agriculture inputs to the selected farmers in the targeted areas.
  • Conduct and support ongoing monitoring of agriculture activities, through frequent visits to field sites to ensure proper implementation of activities at the farm/ community level.
  • Perform any other project-related tasks as and when required by project management.

Job Requirement

Education Required:

 A bachelor’s degree in agriculture preferably in Agriculture Extension, Agronomy, Horticulture, or agribusiness. 

Experience and Skills Required:

 At least 3 to 5 years of demonstrated experience in the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with farming Communities in the fields of agriculture and community-based enterprises.
  • Proven experience in the formation of Farmers’ Self Help Groups and Community enterprises (Business hubs).
  • Demonstrated experience in the establishment of Farmers’ Field Schools, Demonstration plots, and Field days.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding sub-national institutional contexts of Afghanistan.
  • Experience in working with local government or NGOs/INGOs on agriculture/livelihood-related activities in remote areas of Afghanistan.

Language Requirement:

Good working knowledge of Pashto, Dari, and English is required.

Computer Skills:

Good working knowledge of computer applications (MS Office, outlook, internet, etc.)
